Tyres and suggestions

I used to have the 20" Uranos and I had a set of winter tyres for them, so they are usually available (ie it should only be temporary that they arent)

On a RWD car driving in winter, even without snow, winter tyres make a big difference after changing once I would never go back to running summers in the winter. I normally swap early December and leave the winters on until March but the local scrapyard has a set of wheels for roughly the cost of switching on and off so I will probably buy.

I find Conti's a very strange tyre, when you fit them they seem to be a bit short of grip but 200-500 miles in they suddenly change and have loads but depends how many miles you do to get them to switch on.

Yes the difference is massive. I can happily take mine up snowy banks without any difficulty

And yes, they dont do all season in larger sizes

Bike tyres used to be like that. Release compound?

Gnnnn. Thing is we get snow so rarely, and Mrs C reports her Quatraccs were excellent (and I drove them as well, world apart from mine)

I think I'll go for the All seasons in 275/40 (official size is 285/35) unless anyone wants to tell me that's a really bad idea (in terms of the sizing) I know a couple of people on the FB groups are running similar differences without issue.

Let's try not to go into a war over this, please
MOT passed today (yay!) Advisory that the rears are getting close to the wears (more yay!) I am not hugely enamoured of my recent experience so have been looking at options for winter / all weather tyres.
I have 20" rims. As far as I can see after extensive trawling of the manufacturer sites none of the big boys make all season tyres in the right size.

So options:
Get winters at £quite a lot for the 20s and swap to them next winter. In the meantime get some more summer tyres and abandon hope if we get any more snow....

So glad those aren't a factor where I am. The once or twice a year that it snows or ices here, everything shuts down...it's like a holiday

Well everything shuts down here. Apart from needy parents and the press that want to know why we don't store £n million of snowploughs for the 2 days a decade we might actually need them :D

Bit like the current PPE row ;)

Yes. Precisely.

Though I remember the first plow and salt truck that were invested in, locally. And the morning I watched the salt truck being dutifully followed by said plow...
