Top Gear Like it - New GranTurismo

It economics sadly. Paints take six or seven years to develop. Then you have to store them. Then, if you have ‘odd’, colours, you have to change the line robots/staffing.

I’m sure there’s profit wound in there somewhere but still, it’s understandable.
Same with the interior colour choices.
Tan leather just isn’t popular with those who buy this new.

Just going back to the secondhand Roma/GranTurismo argument. The Roma is not really a 2+2, the GranTurismo is. It’s also epically claustrophobic for the driver.
It does have TT V8 though.

The difference in the manufacturing cost of MC Victory Blue paint as opposed to A Different Metallic Blue paint, is very little. And each car is a personal order and individually painted, with the equipment cleaned/changed every time. So the justification for these charges is simply that “the customer is willing to pay”.

I’ve told this story on here before, so apologies for the repeat. But quite some years ago now, in my Lambo buying days, I went to the launch of their new car. When checking the options, I noticed that “white” was a £16k extra. I asked why and was told a heap of nonesense. When I told them I owned a paint manufacturing business they went very quiet…

Agree Ewan, it looks fantastic. There is a lovely 75th Anniversary edition for sale and I just love it. Can’t believe I’m saying it but even the red detailing and badges but….and it is a big but…£215k. That is a lot of money when you consider how much the last Stradale cost new. I'm going to the Graypaul launch next week, will be good to see it in the flesh. I've had four GTs and still own two of them, so I am partial but I agree, they are super pricey

Did the MC20 factory tour today and asked a few questions about the GT - more colours are on the way for the next model year.

As for the MC20, 95 per cent are Cielo models now, and half the cars going through the factory are grey, the most popular colour. There were six or seven cherry red ones, and maybe a handful of yellow/white/black.

Totally different market, but when looking to potentially replace our XC90 I note there are only 2 choices of leather, Black or White (blonde) along with an assorted choices of primer colours for the outside.

I was always under the impression that during times of recession/depression that colours were offered in more vibrant shades to 'cheer up the market'... obviously not happening this time around in the global market.

I suspect it is mainly to keep PCP prices low as expensive options have very limited resale value* come the used market.

*Yes I know some are different.

The Roma's backseats are less usable that the Cali/Portofino. I tried getting into the back of one with the passenger seat forward and the lack of headroom was terrible. Grandturismo is still the only GT with usable rear seats.

I didn't find the Roma claustrophobic for the driver on the nice long test drive I had. Felt good on the track too.

On the paint costs, be thankful Maserati stick badges on. I was talking with people next to a new Roma a couple of weekends ago. It had the painted on Scuderia shields, rather than the inlaid enamel ones, which was a £10k option. The other problem is that if the wing gets damaged its back to Maranello to get it re-painted. Good job no one actually drives them far ;)

Might have to register an interest to see if I can get an invite to JCT600 in Bradford, unless I've already missed their launch party.

I'd argue that's putting a spin on – we bought a load of colours! Ah ****, conspicuous consumption is out; where are the greys and blacks?

From the front quarter and from the side, it looks a bit TVR to me.
Is it just me or do you think so too?
Actually that's not a bad thing, since there is no other way of getting a new TVR today.....
