The New Atom 4 turbo

While I scratch my head on how best to upgrade from my current QP (FF, 612 or MC Stradale), I have had a very serious thought about putting a deposit towards the Atom.
They want 3k now and some money later when speccing the car. Delivery in possibly October next year.
Any thoughts from those who have had one, or driven it, please share.
Car will be able to fit in garage and taken out to few track days, car shows and possibly charity events ( seems to be very popular in these).
I am about 99% sure I will put a deposit tomorrow, unless someone here brings up a point or issue I haven't envisaged yet.

They’re awesome; I’d have one in a heartbeat. £40k is a lot of money for a track fun car though. Depends on your financial situation. I’d be more likely to go for a £25k Caterham and then you’ve £15k to put towards a Strad or a GT Sport.

Good point. But I really prefer the look and package of the Atom. Also, keeping these for a few years will financially not be an issue as depreciation is much less than the normal cars.
It said in some article / review somewhere that 95% of atoms never see any track action at all.

My son went around Brunty in one and on the same day went around in all sorts of Maserati, Vantage N430, Ferrari 458, Nissan GTR, Lambo Gallardo and he said the Aton made him smile more than any and was his favourite car on the day by a country mile. Atoms are all about attacks on all the senses.

Had an Atom experience for my 40th a few years back... it's a car that I've always had a soft spot for and getting behind the wheel was something else... super fun!
Was on the Eurostar chatting to a couple who were off to Belgium for the day in thiers and not a bad word said about their ownership... tool about in one of those and you make friends so very easily!

So, nutshell... buy one!

Yes. You are right about that.
The turbo ones seem to be very popular in US and the new one has a lot of torque.
Unlike many, I don't like the supercharger whine in the current one. So was looking forward to this version.

Great article. Just read it on my way to work.
As you are the first owner I have come across I will fire away a few questions on the pm a bit later.
Thanks Wattie.

I have now put a deposit for the new Atom 4. It will be my first new car ever!
But will be delivered in 2020 from what Ariel are saying.
Thanks all for the input and specially Wattie who has been a great fountain of info and guidance.
I greatly enjoyed some of his saucy inputs / photos on the Ariel forum :).
Once the spec sheet is out I will be in touch again.

Well done! But that is far too long to wait. Are you tempted to get something else in the meantime?

I don't know but the QP will follow a parellel path and give way to FF or MC Stradale. But I will hold back in that as am very happy with the current scenario. Changed from a mini JCW to a Nissan cube as a family run about this year as well.

Now that is an interesting choice. I see a lot of Nissan cubes where I live.

Oriental peeps love them.

How do you rate it and why did you get one?

I do have a thing for quirky cars. I have had a Toyota Sera, Daihatsu Avanzato trxx Kei car, even a Camry.

Cube fitted the current requirement perfectly. Something I can use to pickup kids and do local shopping and take big box deliveries for our online business. It is very cost effective, reliable, small 1.4 petrol engine, lots of space inside, and can actually accommodate 7 people unless the they are Americans. I need 7 seats for local short journeys when folks from India come over for a few weeks a year.

The next best such thing was either a land rover, a Nissan elgrand or a Toyota previa. All big engined and very large in size. Not good for small trips. Also VW Sharan and Citroen Picasso but I did not find a good one for my very limited budget of £3k!

Inside is very plain but usefully setup with lots of storage space. All seats can go gown to make huge bed of needed! Mine is a Japanese import as they never did a 7 seater version for UK.
The car is actually on a Nissan note chassis and shares most parts with Micra.

Very simple to drive and park. Kids and Mrs love it. Also, I think because of the colour and shape combination it does get a lot of finger pointing and smiles.

So far it has been reliable, useable, surprising chuckable around corners and very practical.

If interested I would recommend getting one with as much gadgets like good ICE, reversing camera, dvd player and sunroof.

They are hard to come by but easier to sell.

There are even some supercharged ones around!
