Just passed a Bentley Bentanyaga thing towing a single axle Hobby caravan on A19; so you have a gazillion pound car and go on holiday in a caravan!!

At least you'll see the caravan and not the back of that ugly monstrosity......

Can't forgive the Bentley but we enjoy caravanning, it's not about the cost.

Hobbys are German and are not cheap, favoured by the travelling community

Nowt wrong with that!! So they made money doesn’t mean they should act like ***** and just go on cruises.

To me it seems like they are still down to earth people and maybe still connected to their friends.

Nothing worse than someone who makes money then finds a new set of friends and hobbies.

The irony was also in the statement. A lot of caravan sites won't take Hobby caravans as they are usually used by the travelling community.

At the risk of starting a fight, What is the point of a caravan?

Well I can only speak for us but here goes

1. We have a disabled boy who likes routine, he has got use to the caravan so no matter where we go he settles immediately whereas hotels /cottages it takes him 3 days of angst
2. We have the flexibility to go where we want and stay as long as we want with all our own stuff
3. Once pitched everything we need is there and it doesn't need to be repacked until we move on
4. Most sites have similar people to us, many with children, who all play together - some days we only see them as they whizz by in with a group of other kids
5. It's relaxing, you spend time in your own place at your own pace including your own car
6. It's cheap, about £20 per night for a serviced pitch for all 5 of us (cheaper in Europe)

Ultimately you either get it or you don't, both wife and I caravanned with parents when we were children and things have moved on so much more from those days, services, facilities, standards all much better.

I understand but I have to bring you up on the cost per night, surely you should factor in the initial cost and extra fuel of purchasing and towing the caravan.

Holiday camps/hotels should have facilities like airports do for those with special requirements.

I used to camp in a tent off a motorbike in the past, I'd still do it but Mrs MLC likes her own toilet/shower facilities however I never 'got' caravaning.

Good reply.
Enjoyed camping when the kids where younger for similar reasons, happy memories.
These days the camping is glamping, in fact a long weekend this weekend for the Stag Owners Club National in a wigwam!

I think we will only do it whilst the kids are young soon they will expect much more but things are moving, we looked at replacing our van this year and all new ones have USB ports in every light fitting, have solar panels fitted as standard and are wired for multiple TVs with Satellite connectivity built in - glamping on wheels
