Wow what's going on with it Matt last I read you were reprogramming the injectors.
Thought the head had been done over in Chepstow ?
A bit of a Project Alfa this one then ?
Morning all :)

Its been a bit of a mission but it comes down to the previous garage not skimming the head that was warped after an overheating issue. This manifested itself as not starting from cold or warm. Obviously it had compression in the cooling system too.

Head has been skimmed but they had to take 25 thou off it and we need to see if the head is still within tolerance. I have a 10 thou thicker head gasket so it should be ok but I may have to have it modified so that it takes up another 10 thou.

EGR valve was stuffed, that has been blanked and remmed out of the ecu plus cold start updates applied to the ecu, The car does (or did) cold start on the button. The intake manifold was clogged and leaking. This has been modified too where the swirl flaps have been removed and the manifold acid bathed and modified. Injectors were in the wrong way round which are coded to each cylinder so the ECU can trim the fuel as required.

On top of that there were a myriad of other smaller issues such as dirty MAF and MAP, coolant temp sensor and the turbo boost solinoid.

The warm start issue was still present but its believed that due to head gasket gone water was seeping back into the cylinders on cool down and thus the engine had to pump all this out so the derv could ignite. Coupled with the intake mods it should be in rude health but its been a mission. I did get some money back from the previous garage which has covered the costs for parts its just the 100 hrs labour I have put into it thats annoying.

Anyway, never been beaten by a car, and never will. New Cambelt and water pump going on too.

Then off to the paint shop for a respray. Not going to make much on this one but it will be a lovely, sorted car for someone and, more importantly, another one saved. Its only got 70k miles on it so to scrap it as Andy was considering would have been a shame.

Its going to be a very sorted car when she's done.

Labour of love...that's one way to look at it......******* nightmare more like...Wish I had just scrapped the thing. In fact I was offered more in the scrape schemes of get get on new cars than just scrap....If I hadn't lost my job that's what I probably would have done as you can get anything from 2500 to 6000 for her against a new car depending on the scheme.

Good morning everyone. Hope all is well there.
After two days of rain, it looks like weather improves. Going in the alfa for fix some trouble with a turbo lag. Other than that, it´s a long way in front. Take care.

Morning all.
Matt what a mission and what kind of a workshop did the initial job sounds unbelievable.
Don't know how you have found the time to do it and as you say a fair few hours to put back together.

Lovely looking day out there, but I suspect cold.
Off to Sunny Saltburn by the Sea shortly for some bread.

Dave Lanzarote apparently was cold and windy last week - sorry

Morning all. Busy day today, although I was hoping to finish early and spend some time with the family, but it looks like that has gone out of the window already.

Took the Maser to work this morning as we have dry, now warming roads (over 5 degrees at least).
How I've missed the sound of a 4.7 V8 at full throttle. Not been able to do that for months!

More work to do for the new company ahead of our finish jobs next week. So far so good.
Also have to write up all of the surveys I did yesterday.

Have a good one all.
