Then went on to Sony Discman and the an iAudio player with a hard disc 'cos it could play ogg which allegidly was better than mp3.
Eb

ogg was good but iirc there weren't too many compression tools around at the time .mp3 was making headway.
Suppose the main uptake was the US who had broadband long before we did. Not sure about France who had had Minitel for ages.
Still have a couple of 650Mb CDs of mp3s compressed in '97. The cr*p contained therein :)

What was great about it was that with TOC it meant that all the data was editable and moveable. Very cool for maximising space etc and far more flexible than CD-RW/R

Agreed. To say nothing of smaller, physically. This was back in the day when it actually was quite hard to fill a CDR, and they weren't exactly cheap (at least not on what I was getting paid)

If your talking general data usage what were the max write speeds of MD? A mate had one around '99 and recall it being pretty slow compared to CDRW. A few years before that I had an Iomega Zip drive - quite handy for transferring stuff from the lab. but again not exactly quick. For anything "permanent" always preferred to write to disk. The CDR mentioned above were Sony and £50 per box of 50 - well worth it even if only half full.

I recall CDRs being rather more than that. More like £5 each, but maybe that was me, or is me or something. No idea about the write speeds because it was only real time recording.....

A jock would never have paid that much - och nooo
Perhaps speed was the answer - never bothered with MD but CDR speeds were starting to multiply every few months then. As well as the costs of the disks dropping. DVDR wasn't too far away either.

Morning all.

Off to Mama's and Papas today to melt my credit card on baby stuff.
I'll need to have a lay down afterwards.

I've got a nice matching Mama's & Papa's set of wardrobe, chest of drawers with changing top & cot bed converting into toddlers to 5yo ish bed that we have no intention of using again.

Been meaning to EBay it for ages but if your interested I'm not sure it is worth so much now so you'd save many pounds

Hey guys...this is a moan

I love cars, but currently its got to the stage where I wish I didn't own any. The past month has been one problem after another and it's wearing me thin. It has also got to the stage where a luxury (i don't use my cars for daily transport, as I live in central london) has become my biggest stress and by far my biggest cost outside of must-haves.

The MX5 has been a nightmare. I know it is an old car, but they have a great rep as being reliable. The power steering sprung a huge leak. Week later the belts snapped and it over heated. Week later caliper started acting up.

This week, the car is for some reason sitting higher on one side than the other, for reasons unknown. Also, it is pulling itself off its anti-roll bar drop links possibly because of the car siting higher.

The Vantage also has a couple of issues, not as bad, touch wood. But of course more expensive.

I know we all have moments when our favourite hobby/passion becomes a bit of an annoying weight on the shoulders. I guess that everyone has been there, i have before certainly with the Masser, and no doubt in a few days (hopefully not weeks) and the bank balance significantly less in the black and more in the red, all will be well. Let's hope

Anyway moan over. Just thought i'd have a moan to people who might actually understand.
Push through the pain Ross....it will be worth it. I know the feeling as been through the same pain many times. Your passion & belief has to be strong. A good drive on a good day can restore your faith very quickly.

I have had a recent nightmare but you push through & keep your sense of humour....you have to...you WILL go made if you don't!

Morning chaps. Just about to set off back from somewhere just south of Florence, a mere 2,000 miles. We should be back next Tuesday so I should be back to regular posting from then. My liver is screaming and I've been p!ssing golden syrup for the past week, so it'll be good to getting back to p!ssing blood as usual. Have a good one, and I'll be doing my best to annoy our German frie.... frie.... frie.... No, still can't say it.

Morning,

I share that feeling C.

Cleaned the car ready for the weekend last night, though it'll still need a polish once I get to Brands. Have a little bit of WFH this morning then its heading down south ready for the weekend. Why do I always pick to travel on Fridays? I must need my head testing.

Have a great one all

Morning all!

Rossy mate I know how you feel, owning 6 cars it is almost a constant battle to keep them on the road and in fine form. If you need any help with any of it let me know and I will see if I can help at all.

I never did call you to chat but now doesn't sound like the right time?

Ok so off to badminton soon then some catching up on expenses and then the usual POETS days rules apply :D

Clean the car tomorrow morning ready for a blast up to Brands on Sunday to see the usual reprobates...

Good morning!
My friends had a new yellow MC Strad turn up in their cul-de-sac last night (OY17 G...). Made me have to go for a drive, but the car had left before I got there.
Busy day today with a visitor at the office and then this evening and tomorrow I get to see some old friends over from Hong Kong.
HapPea Friday!
