I think they were pretty good Adam...It was such a departure to what Maserati were making at the time.......I think they tested it on one of the motoring programmes..perhaps its on You Tube somewhere..

Not many video's of it on Youtube, cant find an official road test review. They certainly looks quite something, most would never guess it was a Maserati.

Wow that first one is in incredible condition I have just done a translation of the spiel:

The barchetta THB CMM LAC is one of the 3 original works cars, which have been set up brand Cup 1992 for the barchetta. The vehicle was used only once, in Monza on 27 June 1993 under the driver Giorgio Farina. The vehicle then served as Stradale trial under engineer Gamberini. After an accident caused during test running "LAC" should be, rebuilt Italian Astra Racing team which however, was not realized. The vehicle was acquired in 2001 by Neri Danieli from Concordia mo. In July 2002, the vehicle was purchased by me. After a documented rebuilding the vehicle is again in the original race State with the No. 18 following work were performed here, where all parts were renewed, come from the remains of Maserati and new parts were: the complete chassis (damper), Springs, joints) and the brakes were renewed. The engine was rebuilt with original parts and a new transmission. Xenon headlights were mounted in the front cover to drive may be on the road. They are not visible if the yellow sticker on the vehicle.

It just looks like new....

I think the second one would be much more affordable for sure; I note also the engine No. on this one is 17, given that the total run of production was 17 is it reasonable to assume this is the last one?

Good info there Newton. They are an incredible car that a lot of people just do not know about. Like i stated earlier, would love to know how much they are worth now, i am not sure what the list price was.

Really tough to price Adam, If I was to guage it against anything perhaps Porsche 959 although 287 in that production run + 1 hand built for Eddy Ervine (unofficially)

I'd say German one £120 - 140k

Japanise one £60 - £85k

Rarety factor.... I could be miles out!

Really they are worth that much?? wow, i dont have a clue like i said. I would not say you were miles out as i think realistically they will be expensive as for 1, they are super rare and 2, super rare Maserati's do tend to fetch a lot of money.

there's some great Barchetta footage on Enrico's pages.

I saw one at McGrath's a few years back- they used to store and maintain it for the owner. The owner had had a cast made of the front and was running the car with a reproduced fibreglass front end to save the original. You'd never have known the difference.

It saw (and still does see) serious competition use and was clocked during the Silver Flag at Vernasca a few years ago as having an average downhill speed of 169mph (closed public roads)

Basically a Ghibli Cup engine but with distributor ignition instead of electronic. McGraths had successfully converted the car I saw to electronic ignition for the owner. I've got a picture of it- I'll scan it in tomorrow...

Great info there Jim, be good to see a pic of it. As Newton says, what would be your guess on what these are worth.

yeah- they were a bit of a handful; but then; it was perfect! You've got to remember it was mid engined, with the gearbox pointing out of the back of the car, an aluminium honeycomb backbone chassis and a carbon tub body dropped over the top- a unique configuration for a Maserati and certainly very rare generally. They were built to race not for the road- it's almost a high-tech track kit-car!

They are serious-serious machines and I don't think Maserati ever produced anything like it again- it would certainly only have notional similarities with the MC12.

As for value; I couldn't say.

Rarity is a factor, competition history, period press attitude towards the vehicle, bespoke materials - the carbon/composite shell wouldn't have been cheap and that was in '92! ... Then of course the illegibility for certain race and competition events made possible by ownership...

I'm afraid I've forgotten to bring the shots in to post this morning- but I looked them out last night and have two, not particularly detailed; one of a the damaged replica front end and one of the car from behind which I'll post later.
