Sump Plug Key Size?

Went to change the oil yesterday and found that even my largest hex piece wasn't big enough to undo the sump plug on the 3200.

I can't seem to find anywhere a specification for the size of the sump plug head.. sooo.. those that have done an oil change themselves would you be so kind as to let me know what size tool I need to go and purchase?

Cheers!

Hi Phil,

Ahhh.. more than likely!

At least I have an idea of size ranges to go for. If I get a hex selection pack ranging from 10mm through to 20mm I should be catered for.

No probs, I got Mike R to do my oil change and cambelt as it was as cheap as I could have done it anyway so was a no brainer!

I was on the verge of whipping it around to my local friendly mechanic with the bits to do the oil change.. but having come so far and done so much of it myself to date I'm not going to be stumped by one single hex key :)

Sum Plug reminded me of this. I don't know why but it still amuses me!

Will soon be doing the same.
How best to get the oil filter off, without disturbing the water pipe on the radiator?

Rob,

My understanding there is that there is enough wriggle room (just) to get the filter off without disturbing anything...

I will be putting this to test in the next couple days and will report back!

Any update on this?
seems to be 15 mm Allen key. Nothing in that size as 3/8 drive Allen socket.

Anyone confirm?

i did the oil change on my 3200 yesterday, and the hex is a 17mm.

It's a pain in the **** to get the oil filter out. You need to undo it, then disconnect the right hand air intake from the throttle body so that you have enough room to lift the oil filter out from the top. That's the only way I could see to do it.

Cheers Justin
