Now it is really rainy, MrsMarkMas has decided she wants to rent a convertible for a week, so she can see if she wants to buy one. She is probably thinking MX5, rather than Aston, but we are flexible. Any suggestions for hire firms, ideally in the Bristol / Birmingham area?

Buying new or used? If new, why not go to a Mazda dealer and see if they'll do a long term test drive for a couple of days?

Try Enterprise, they have a number of small sports cars... and if you want, Lambos too.

While they don't have many convertibles, I have had good experience of Sports Car Hire in Shrewsbury - I took their Granturismo out for a long weekend, while working on persuading my wife that we should own one.

In convertibles at present I think they have a Caterham 7, a Lotus Elise Supercharged, a Morgan Plus 4 and a Ford Mustang V8.

Checked the SIXT site and it appears BS quoting €102 per day in Germany, Spain, France and Switzerland.

Nice selection if the OPs wife is a car person, if not, I wonder what 3 cars would put her off convertibles more than 3 awkward to get in and out of leaky Brits and a the big and brash loud yank tank :D

I would have thought that Mazda or Fiat dealers would let you have a weekend test drive, mate of mine just had an I8 from BMW from Friday evening to Monday morning

Hertz have special lists. Seem reasonable. Been looking at an Abarth 595, or Fiat Spider for Italy.

The new Mazda MX5 is OK but the abarth is far better. Although it could do with more engine, 1.75 from the 4C maybe. It'll fit in the Japanese can get a 2.0l in there.
