Ok, things are not looking good on the employment front.....looking highly likely that in March/April I might have to be on the "lookout" for something else. I am not too fussy or indeed precious, I have done, and will do, anything from stacking shelves and beyond but wondered when and if things go pear shaped if those in the know here can advise of a car worthy of investment (probably around 35k max) that will be stored safely and produce around a 7k plus payback on top of original investment in 3 to 5 years please advise.........to be clear for those that might be wondering, marci will NOT be for sale! Lol

That's a difficult one, if you had put it into a 355 or similar then would have fulfilled that, by you may have missed the boat by a year or so. Difficult to know, maybe better taking a chance on a couple of cheaper options at £15k or so.

How about a 1980's Porsche 911 SC Greg, the model no one liked, there moving up..
Or an early Audi Quattro.. you might also find a nice Sierra RS Cosworth for that money but you'll have to be quick though!

I think you'd need to be very careful putting money into anything classic , my opinion is the over 55s have been fuelling the classic car fire with their cashed in pension pots, the question is when will they all be offloading them when they get bored or realise driving the car they wanted when they were 18 isn't all it's cracked up to be in the 21st century

Allan. Not restricted to one car, so what two if your cash would you look at?
Dave, think any decent porker from the last 20 years in the right condition etc will be up there.......not so sure on the Quattro, much as I liked them.

Yes I know of a few but again speculative stuff.

I reckon buy a E46 CSL, a Renault Clio V6 or a Ferrari 456 Manual. 35k should get you any one of those and I reckon the ROI you want.

Buy at the right Auction too and got will do well. Ping me if you need more details. I may also be able to get you some trade deals too.

With you on the CSL Phil....35k seems the going rate with some dealers trying to 50k plus for the lower miles ones.......

He is the biggest front runner ever. If classic cars were a regulated investment then we would be banged up already.

I was about to say the same cars mentioned. 996 Turbo is a good bet too. I'd be buying an AC or an MCV if you could stretch a little.

Yes I agree with this definitely, but
My own research has been leading me to a DB7 as a usable car and also an appreciating asset
just my POV

The DB7 shares the XK8 body , my XK8 had quite a lot of rust in the floor and front wings so you'd need to find a good one or any gains could be lost on expensive rectification

On a jag forum one guy had re shelled his XKR after a crash , the car looked really nice but once it was stripped the tin worm was quite extensive around the gearbox tunnel

Non 996 Turbos & GT3s have the potential IMS issue i.e. your engine blows up. I have been told that provided the car have had an oil change every year, then it shouldn't be an issue although my understanding is they were sealed bearings. Also believe later versions of the engine had uprated IMS bearings.

I have heard folks send a sample of their oil after every change to be analysed for metal. I have also heard you can hear the death rattle before it destroys your engine. Maybe they should also be a service item every couple of years although the gearbox needs to be removed. Just like wishbones.....
