Help! Has anyone replaced the rear wheel bearings in a 3200gt or does anyone know where to get a hub unit for the right money?

Yes, They are not cheap. you can try breakers but make sure you get a low mileage bearing as they don't last forever. try David Askew, or There is a breaker in Northern Ireland who is very good. Or just pay the money it may be worth it.

Yes I have come to the same conclusion The Item IS actually the Bearing!! I have got a guy trying to source one if not they might be able to machine a few thou off the face to get rid of the play! It was not noisey, just had slight play which was on the MOT advisory

Be careful with the rear bearing play.............a dealer once told me bearing play turned out to be rear hub tie rod rose joint play when I inspected properly on hoist! I sourced new rose joint from Martin (very helpful chap) up there at Emblems.

The play was in the Bearing! The Bearing has now been Reconditioned by Borg Transmissions who replaced the balls and done some machining to the faces. Good as new for the fraction of the cost of a new one!!! New Discs and Pads, Starter Motor Reconditioned, be back on the road soon for the tail end of summer.

Don't know exactly yet haven't had the bill ! but was told 3 hours labour @£40.00ph plus parts which I suspect will not be a lot
will post when I get the invoice

I am genuinely intrigued as to how they managed to refurb this unit, please tell.

Pushed it apart with a press replaced the Balls ground a few thou of the faces and pushed it back together with new seals. Old school engineering ! Can't be done if there are signs of any pitting in the ball grooves
Hand Brake shoes back from Villiers (the old motorcycle engine company) Relined as new £33.00 the lot!
Good job there are still proper craftsmen out there!!

Talking about two completely different parts, the bearing dismantled and repaired is from a 3200 not a 4200 / GS
I think it's the same part, also used on several Ferraris apparently! We think It is a generic part that Maserati source in, they remove any casting numbers etc for obvious reasons for all we know these could be fitted to a fork lift or the like!! Borg Transmissions would have sourced the manufacturers eventually but in this instance it was quicker to recon the original unit
