Whilst we're ranting about lights - what about these LED number plate lamps that people fit? All they seem to do is shine a white light behind the car and barely illuminate the plate at all, making it nearly impossible to read the rear number plate at night.

Duncan

Who actually needs to read a numberplate :D

What really gets me going is people that give no consideration to others and mope around paying no attention giving no thought to how their actions (or lack of them) have on others :

- people walking out of a shop doorway then immediately stopping - blocking the path for everyone
- people in queues that are messing with their phones or whatever and don’t move forward
- people at airport security who leave it until they are at the front before they sort themselves out - holding everyone up
- people who shop in petrol stations blocking the pumps
- people who wait patiently in line at the shop then seem surprised that they have to pay and mess about looking for their money
- people looking at their mobile phones and not paying attention to where they are going

I could go on but don’t want to come across as a miserable old git !

1) No one does anything *they* think is un-reasonable
2) Everyone is fighting a battle you have no idea about. Be kind.

Me and my brother are swapping houses, mine has more scope for a large extension which my brother has got builders doing now, I moved in with brother which will be for 6 months for the duration of the extension work, my brother's council tax goes to full amount(loses 25% single persons allowance) but I never thought I would have to pay council tax on my old property whilst the builders are ripping it to bits with no sign of a seat or bed in it.
We was going to change the deeds once the building work was done and he moved into the property but I wonder if it would be better if they were both in his name for the 6 month period for a better discount?

You can only claim the 25% discount on onep property... I know as I had the same issue when I had three houses.

Ok, seems like I've got to pay up. I will have to now pay the extra 25% where I'm living plus what they want for the unhabited place under construction where I use to live.

If you check your local councils web pages it will give you the 'exceptions' but you do have to apply.

Ok if you have a religious sect btw.!

Unhabited is one word - another you could put to your Council is uninhabitable. When my Father's place was being re-done he couldn't have lived there even if he had wanted to. No utilities nor kitchen, bathroom, etc., etc.. In this instance his local authority granted a 50% reduction. I don't know if it was discretionary, given his particular circumstances, or whether the Council would apply the same reduction regardless.

In Le Mans I was sickened to be held up by a white Stradale whilst driving my BMW diesel. Every time he overtook someone I was up him like a reluctant enema. Whoever the c*nt was, I’ll bet he is still pretty p!ssed off being butt f*cked by a diseasel. :) :) :)

In your dreams Benny!

It’s called responsibility. Being head of a convoy of 8 or so cars it’s bad manners to steam off and lose the pack.

Nob....no offence

Good idea, in fact I've got someone from the council meeting me there when they arrange a date with me and it will come apparent to them it is uninhabitale.

Hi Mark - if I recall the Council had a list of certain criteria they would expect to see in order to give a property uninhabitable status.
If there is one thing I am certain of is that Dad will have kept a copy of their letter - I can ask him to scan a copy if it could help.

Rant thread? Please consider this a rant that the Bimmer-driving Foghorn of Nantwich has woken up. FFS!

No one, not even the travellers who were trotting their buggies up the road outside Kirkby Stephen with a good 2 miles of traffic behind them and never pulling over once in the 5 miles and 30 minutes I was stuck behind them, surely even *they* must know that's unreasonable

Thanks for your offer Neil.
There should be no doubt it is uninhabitable as the house has walls and ceilings removed, trusses are being strenghened with steel beams etc, saying all that we know dealing with certain honchos at the council common sense quite often seems to be in short supply.
Thanks
Mark

My rant, why is when I'm in the Maser people feel the need to race? M61, Asian kid draws up to side of me dead level, in a Focus with all sorts of go-faster stuff on, then accelerates off, dump valve popping, I mean why? Today I was in Woodlesford Leeds, carefully driving over full width speed bumps cos I don't to knacker my suspension, some tw@t in Golf decides to overtake and great speed, car bouncing like feck. Presumably so they can tell their mate they burnt-off a Maserati....

And, sat as passenger in Mrs' car, it's hot cos she has the heater on all the time, I complain, she's says it's not on at all, pointing to the fan speed knob. Yet again I try to explain how it works, that's not the heater, that's throughput, if it's turned to red, it's heating. So I open the window, she doesn't;t like the wind roar, I turn the a/c on, that costs petrol....

Grrrrrr!!!

Tell you what I did today that scared the pants off me, took off from the lights in manual, bit of pedal to get past a car in left lane, flicked up to second, and for some reason flicked down to first, feck me it leap away, screaming revs, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, brill!! I'm not one to bang the revs on, so I've never really heard it full pelt. Seems fine though, presumably it wouldn't let me make the downshift if it wasn't in the parameter....

Wanna do it again now...
