QPV zf gearbox question from newbie - can you hold it on the brake in manual mode?

Hi All

I suspect that this is probably quite a dumb question, but I will ask it anyway….

Despite a 35 year driving history I have not driven that many automatic cars and certainly not any with a ’manual’ mode and flappy paddles - until I purchased my QPV with a ZF gearbox. I have always believed (please correct me if I am wrong) that it is perfectly normal and acceptable to hold the car on the brake whilst being in automatic “D” mode, whilst in stop start traffic or waiting at a junction for example. My question is can you do the same in manual mode, so for example if I pulled up to a junction in “D” and was holding the car on the brake can I change into manual “1” and still hold the car on the brake, likewise if I am driving in manual can I slow to a stop having changed down to “1” and then hold it on the brake or will it behave like a real manual and stall?

I am guessing that the answer is I can hold it on the brake in manual as it is not a true manual gearbox, but I have not wanted to try it just in case I embarrass myself by lurching forward or stalling or far worse breaking something!

Sorry if this was indeed a dumb question but my excuse is that I am a newby with this type of car !

Many thanks,
Tim

Try it on your drive, it won't stall.
D at the lights stationary is the same as 1 in manual mode

Some (auto) cars pull off in 2nd
