QP5 Bose head unit vs Magneti Marelli head unit

Hi,

Forgive me if a thread on this subject already exists. I'm looking to buy a QP5 at some point so wanted to do a little comparison between the two head units offered on models between 2009-2012.

I know that the Magneti Marelli head unit has customization potential in terms of adding apple carplay/android auto and integrating a back up camera. I haven't been able to find any info on whether the same modifications are possible on the Bose head unit, are they even possible, has anyone done it?

Apart from the modification potential, how do they stack up against each other in stock form?

I have bose. No mods other than ripping it out as far as I can tell. I have installed a secondary carplay screen above the clock mainly to use waze and Spotify. It can take a reversing camera too.
The screen is separate to the head unit and with a specialist they may be able to figure out if splicing into the cable is possible, but they appear a bit fragile. I turned my map off and have now lost the database.

Sounds like the Bose head unit is pretty useless then which is a shame because it means forking out more cash to source a Magneti Marelli head unit.

Not sure they are interchangeable are they?

No, they have different dimensions so you're prolly also going to need a new wooden panel which in itself is pretty costly

And any cables, possibly other bits and a new dash as they are a different shape. Then pay for SI upgrade.

It would be cheaper to get a halo 9 fitted and move the buttons around to fit. Then stick the bose in the boot to run clock etc.

Two of these and not the hideous windscreen mount it came with. And a bit of cloth tape on bottom where it sits on the vent.
