Well I got a one way train ticket to Wimbledon to see/buy this QP GTS on Friday night. Got a return ticket back!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-08-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Well it was not quite as good as I was expecting and had quite a lot of issues some smaller and some bigger. I have viewed this and not bought so unless you have a lot of time and money on your hands in excess I would not bother to look at or make the journey. Just for your info. If anyone needs any further info let me know.

Add not there anymore...Was it the one at 16995 buddy or the grey one at a dealer at 22k.

I feel sorry for the person who bought it. I was there 30 mins. Didn't drive it or look at any paperwork. Didn't need to get that far.

Where do I start!

Front bumper - respray needed as lacquer peeling off
N/S/R quarter panel & N/S/R door - botched repair, both been heavily filled/painted and all filler cracked badly...crazy paving.
All 4 alloys badly kerbed - almost possibly not refurbable....probably OK but on the edge.
N/S/R elec window not working properly as dropped off runners/mech
Dent in middle of roof
Rear bushes and some parts of subframe looked quite rusty
No ticking but owner had no knowledge of variators ever been done - engine sounded quiet enough on top end on start up though
Various examples of interior leather trim curled up and unstuck
Needed 2 x rear tyres. Front tyres good & fairly new but will need replacement due to wall damage and big bulge on one side.
Brakes looked good and discs/pads replaced last year.

Didn't get the feeling I was getting the whole truth from seller so made the decision to walk without checking the rest of the car, electrics, paperwork or even driving it. The rear quarter panel and rear door crazing was very very bad and one of the worst bodywork repairs I've seen.

Crying shame for a GTS just to be a little unloved and not well looked after enough. We had done a prospective deal prior to viewing at £9k. I haven't got the time to take on a car that needed so much doing. Not at £9k either although I did suggest I would have paid £7k if I had more time. It would be a brave person to take this on as I really so no upside on this example compared to others in the market place at lesser miles and in better conditions.

In fairness to the seller, It seems a pretty honest description.

"Some scratches on rear bumper and around car. Some of the lacquer on front bumper (passenger side) has lifted.
Interior VGC; leather slightly lifting by offside rear window.
Alloys reasonable - showing kerb rubbing plus slight bubbling"

A £100k car for £8-9k, 10 years old, and it has done 115k miles, so I sort of get the picture

Not accurate at all....I've viewed it remember. Your welcome to view it & buy it if you feel it is described accurately.

To be honest when the rear near side glass fell down on its own accord & the owner knew exactly what he needed to do to slide it back up again that was enough for me. When someone hides things on cars in my experience it is not normally one thing. What else was being hidden that I never stayed long enough to find?

A car with that many issues is pretty much worthless , I bet he was gutted when you walked away

I was ready to buy and quite positive prior to viewing. He was also geared up for the sale I'm sure so I expect he was pretty gutted when I walked away but it wasn't prep'd or described well. He must have thought all his xmas's had come at once when I contacted him and said I would come down that night!

I always hate those moments when you go to look at a car as you pretty much know & make your mind up in the first minute or so. I had made my mind up on this in 2 mins. As soon as I saw the horrific filler and cracking on the n/s/r quarter panel & door. I dropped mentally & physiologically a little at that point....let out a sigh and spent the next 20 trying to work out in my head if it could be worth some pain at a lower price. I got down to £7k from the £9k I had agree and had to be realistic that I didn't have the time or inclination for this one even at £7k. It just wasn't worth it which is a pretty sad state of affairs on a 2008 QP GTS.

Thing is if you had bought it and spent 10k doing it up there are three for sale from 17k to 20k on AT at the moment that possibly wouldn't need much if anything doing.

Your still not convincing me

The trouble is these are up for sale still and haven't sold as plenty of other Masers also remain unsold. I don't think it is just a Maser thing. The changes & shift to renting/leasing in many cases is starting to have some domino affects IMHO.

I think the business to buy & break big lumpy cars is more viable than ever now.

I'm trying to buy a decent QP GTS at the moment at hopefully less than the two above but will find out this week. Great if so if not no worries. Buying the right car at the right price is key now more than ever. Buy the wrong car & it will be hard to shift. Buy at the wrong price & you'll lose your shorts.
