Potential new owner - MC Stradale advice

Morning,

After a few attempts, am now finally signed up lol!

Have been looking for a car for a little while, shortlist is down to BMW M6 Gran coupe and the Maserati MC Stradale 4 seat. The M6 is probably a much better all rounder (better tech, more comfortable, circa. 600 horespower etc etc) but something is pulling me towards the Maserati.

My question is, I have seen a white 4 seat for sale: http://www.saxton4x4.co.uk/used/4x4...urismo-4.7-mc-stradale-white-for-sale-gt15mcs

Is 50k miles a huge issue? its a one owner, full Maserati service history car and seems pretty good value at £57K (It has been on sale for a few months by the look of it, they recently dropped the price by £2k so seem eager to sell).

Apparently the last service was in 2016 around 36k miles - so will be due a service and can;t really tell but it does look a little on the unloved side (Especially on the gear selector buttons and door cards).

Any advice? Anything in particular to look out for? Should I just get the german?!

Thanks in advance,

Aus

50k miles is no problem, it seems the catch all at the moment is suspension bushes which seem to go very rapidly when they do. Reports are plentiful around the 35k mark.

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure one or more of the Stradale fraternity will be along shortly with more detail and possibly knowledge of this car.

Hi and welcome
Brakes are good for 100k+ unless it's been on a track
That car looks like it's been someones daily driver so I don't think it will have been tracked.
The cars are good for the mileage so the only worry you may have would be re-sale value but because your not paying a premium for a low mileage car it shouldn't really matter.
After my last GT/s I was looking at a Merc GTS for the tech but I just couldn't pull myself away from the Masser

The noise if just unbelieveable and everytime you get in it you'll have a smile like a Cheshire cat on your face.

Feel free to PM if you need anymore info.

regards Nick

Hi and welcome.

Given that the car at Saxton is the highest mileage version on the market, I wouldn't buy it personally. For not much more, you can get sub 20k miles and that is money well spent if you want it to hold strong value down the line. You should be able to pick up a 4 seater with decent miles for mid 60s easily enough. There is a school of thought here that the 2 seater Stradale is likely to be more desirable down the line so if you don't need back seats and are intending on keeping it for a few years, I'd look there. Otherwise, there's not much in it I don't think.

Compared to the M6, I think you're talking about comparing personality with ruthless efficiency. The M6 will be faster and more refined but devoid of that passion thing that you can't put your finger on or describe. It will also depreciate like a stone so you'll likely lose more on an M car.

Once you've had a decent go in a Stradale and heard one in Race mode. You'll get it.

Look forward to seeing the new car when you have it!

The carbons disks should last for a while yet, but you should get them properly checked and weighed.

I see what you mean about the 1 & R buttons. Looks like someone with long fingernails had it for a while. Personally I never used the '1' button on my GTS - always selected 1st with the paddles. At >50k miles both my 1 & R buttons were as good as new.

Happy hunting, and a very warm welcome!

Hi and welcome. The issue you will have is if you put 20k miles on it, the car will handle it fine but come resale you will struggle. OK there is always a price it will sell.

You may be better buying a lower mileage one for £10k more, keeping the mileage under 30k over 2 years then sell and get a higher percentage back for it...ultimately costing you less if you get me.

You will also save on the servicing and repairs as the car will want for less being lower mileage and thus save you more.

Buying a cheap Maserati is a false economy.

Is there a 1 button? I've had my GTS for a year now and not even noticed! :f7::boss::saifi4:

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the replies.

My issue is this: I was realistically budgeting for around £45-47k which would get me a nice face lift M6 with bells and whistles, or a decent Granturismo face lift. I hadn't even looked into the Stradale as I had assumed it would be quite a bit out of budget!

I went to see some M6's but I am a bit fussy with spec and have been waiting for 'the one', and the Maserati dream pretty much faded away until I saw this white one at a price not a million miles out of budget.

It is a heart over head sort of choice, logically the BMW will be more fitting for me, and it is a brilliant car, but the Maserati is... well I guess you guys already know what it is!

If your budget is 45-47k, you will get a top spec, low mileage GTS for that.

It will put a smile on your face like no other car. Stretching for a high miles Strad with potentially a few hidden issues from a 4x4 dealer and not a Maser specialist is a shot in the dark IMHO.

Speak to Richard Grace and he will find you mint car in your budget. You will not be disappointed.

This is also something I wanted to ask you guys - residual value.

Realistically I will put negligible miles on it, most likely keep it a couple of years in which time I can't see me putting more than 8-12k miles MAX.

I figured in 2020 for a ~60k miles Stradale is around £40-45k at 5 years old? Would that be a million miles off the mark?

To be honest I had been pretty much set on the M6, the standard GranTurismo is a beautiful beautiful car, but without the extra lure of the MC Stradale I think I would most likely just BMW.

If you can stretch to 60k, you'll get a Stradale. Of course, nobody knows what they will be worth in 2 or 3 years from now but the signs are good that the depreciation will be slow. They have been 60k and above for about 3 years now and edging down tiny percentages only. For me, I think it's safe to say that one with less than 40k miles will command at least 50k, probably more but that's only my opinion.

Drive a GTS. If you still want the M6 afterward you have no soul.

Yes the M6 a very rapid car, but there is little sense of occasion when you drive it. And no one lets you out of side turnings.
Everyone lets you out when you drive a Maserati.

That's how I am justifying it in my head lol - spending an extra ~£12k over what I budgeted, but an M6 will be around £30k in a couple of years where the Stradale should hold its value and, as the person before mentioned, theoretically 'save' me money..

Do Maserati do extended warranties by the way?

Haha - I suppose something has to make up for the circa 2005 design infotainment

Just one more thing to add, do you need the 4 seats?

The signs are that the 2 seater will do better over time than the 4 seaters due to their rarity.

OK, we all agree its stupid to put 2 seats in a car that size but this is what makes it special...the 'stupid' factor :)

Well yes and no. Thing is, if it was a 2 seater then that opens up the door to various other cars such as Audi R8, even maybe Jaguar F type and a few others.

With 4 seats I can half justify it to myself, dropping the 2 seats throws off my man maths calculations and also opens up too many options - choosing between two is taking me too long, more options and I may well be procrastinating until 2025!

Is your car going to be your daily driver?

If so, then personally, I would stick to your budget and buy the very best facelift (non Stradale) Granturismo you can get for £50k. That ought to be enough to get you a really highly specc'ed low mileage one, and I think that would hold its value better than a high mileage Strad (with an interior that is a bit marmite), or an M6...

I think it's probably obvious that the M6 would be the better car technically, but I suspect you'd enjoy the ownership experience of a Maserati way more than BMW - I know I do, and there's no way I'd swap my GTS for either an M3, M5 or and M6.... Clearly having both on the driveway would be nice, but if it's a choice between the two, then I wouldn't hesitate

It would be very much an occasional car, by all accounts it is very loud so I don't think the neighbours would appreciate 6am v8 alarm clock!
