Crop Rotation really does work - well in my garden anyway
Brassicas first then Legumes then Onion family in successive years on the same plot. I grow tatties in containers
Thanks

Ah-ha, now, well, Zep, THAT's the issue. Crop rotation didn't really come into popular use until the 18th Century. It was pioneered by farmers in the lowlands around the 16th Century and came into more popular use a century or two after that. Although there is a history of crop rotation in the middle east as far back as 6000BC, modern-day techniques are far more, well, recent.

And there was me thinking it was considerably more wide spread after John Lloyd inverted the patent crop rotator. But I didn't think it was important.

Matt, many thanks to you and all others involved in the change over, there will always be some fine tuning involved in such things. I can not understand why anyone would criticise a site of this quality which is totally free. Should the time ever come where a contribution is necessary I am sure the majority would be most understanding. So let’s appreciate what is being provided for no cost to us all.

yes i realise the site is free and run by volunteers, but does that mean i must not criticize because it's free? and because it's free it must be a good site? when i log on to this new site it takes me quite a while to find my way around, more scrolling and more button pressing than before, i still say the old layout was a lot better, sure there's new 'data protection rules' rubbish to incorporate into this new site.

The SM site is second to none, it is invaluable and it is run by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, by a number of individuals who have very little, if anything, to gain by doing so. Given their obvious passion for the marque, perhaps, and its just a suggestion, cut those putting untold time and effort into the project a little slack. I'd hate to think were we'd all be if those involved decided to say "f*ck it".

I for one like the new format of the greatest forum I've ever been on!
Oh and tbh can't see what the issue is.

Yes, we got that. You prefer the old layout. Its not coming back so I'd suggest that you have a choice of:

A) Engaging in specific feedback aimed at resolving the particular issues that are bugging you

or

B) Continue to see responses from people who either like the layout or find your generalisations about something they enjoy using a bit churlish

I'm pretty sure you can't have both, but you are welcome to try if you want.

Being someone who's easily distracted by and attracted to anything new and shiny, I really like it. I also very much like the fact that Matt won't get strung up by his goolies for failing to meet GDPR compliance rules, so this new and sexed up home for SportsMaserati (and affiliated marques) scores points on a couple of levels for me.

What I'm especially impressed by is how Matt and Trev are dealing with feedback: they deal with it. This is rare even in the paid world, and their patience and good humour in dealing with us bunch of monkeys is frankly amazing.

In about 1983 this made me laugh, and it did again just now.

And no, my first two paragraphs aren't being sarcarstic!

Change for change's sake isn't necessary.
Change for legal sake is.
Change for improvement is always a good thing.

Matt and the team have done the last two points excellently and to me, the forum looks better and works better.

Give it a month and you will have forgotten all about the old forum.

Vbulletin 4 which is the software that drove the old forum was sunset in May 2017 so we have been winging it for a year on unsupported software. XenForo 2, which is what drives the new site is a recent release and will be good for the next 10 years and regarded as the best forum software out there.

And I presume this software isn't free, nor are the servers, the premises, electricity to run them and cool them either.
