Something similar happened to me with a snapped spring although the spring snapped as I collected the car and drove it off their driveway. They agreed to pay for the labour for one spring. Personally not keen on changing one spring (although in theory there is no reason not to just change one) so I bought a pair had both fitted and they paid half the labour.

So you think I should just do this and let everyone breathe relief!

I've only just picked up on this thread.

Last year I bought Alex a Merc 350 ML. It looked mint so agreed a price before going to Manchester to pick it up.
The day before I picked it up, it had an MOT and passed with flying colours.
The day after I picked it up I had it booked in with Mercedes Ashford for a 'Summer Health Check' as it was free.

They found a broken rear spring. And said it had been like that for a while.

As it was a private sale I just replaced the pair and put it down to bad luck.

It would suggest there are a few **** MOT testers out there.

Luckily the majority seem to break near the ends. I had one break in the middle once, it then shredded the tyre wall instantly! I don't want that again.

And the MOT garage will be doing the work :)

The MOT garage that didn't see a broken spring that must've broken at least one winter ago , road salt would make it that rusty, if that'd happened in the last few weeks it'd still be shiny , it hasn't rained in weeks

You’d think so but I’m not buying it. Humidity alone can do that...

My discs go brown in 12 hrs after a wash....

There's a difference between light corrosion and that level of rust , discs left for a week have a light brown film on , nothing like that , it takes salt or months of being wet to rust something that bad , it's possible that it was cracked for a long time allowing moisture in before snapping though

Plot thickens. At garage. Springs supplied by HR Owen are different to ones in car sold to me. Confirmed that the ones on the car are wrong!!!
