Bloke at school actually got done for speeding on his bike, once. Well cautioned I guess

I clocked 48mph on my racer with CatEye Micro jobbie on. Overtook a 3 series on the right hand side down Chase Road, Southgate. No helmet or anything. Just a 15 year old idiot on board! I was both young & foolish once....hold on a minute.......

Couple of years ago Police had set up speed check outside local school. They clocked me at 21 mph on by bike with the gun as I cycled to work. It was a 20mph limit. When they pointed the gun at me I assumed there was a car behind me.

I got done for breaking the speed limit in Richmond Park on my bike.

I just got a severe telling off from the police.

BTW I am a lycra jobbie. I cycle to work everyday 32 mile return journey and occasionally at the weekend when I have time.

What happens if you get done for speeding on a bike? Is it possible?

Not sure. I did manage to get over 50 on the drop down into Carleton over 20 years ago. Did wonder about this as I went past the 30 mph speed limit signs but then had to concentrate on braking to make the left turn and head back to the office.

I was in Germany with the Mrs in a German hirecar, she was driving, got the double flash just outside Chemnitz (shiîthole) doing 60 or so in 50, kilometers, whatever they are, post arrived, €15 fine and no points.

Result.

Still got the face-on pic, she looked petrified!

€15 fine and no points.

That's the sort of fine I can live with. I remember getting a parking ticket in France which was the same. French registered car so I felt I had to pay it, at that price it seemed rude not to. Payment there is weird: you buy €15 worth of stamps, which you stick on the FPN, then take that around to the cop shop and they file it and cancel the fine. Apparently this is done because everyone in France knows someone in the Gendarmerie and all the fines were getting 'lost'.

Sort of the point of a punishment is it's not meant to be something you're OK with :D

Saw that this morning but since it was first reported in the Mail, I'll take it with a pinch of salt. Most speedometers are more than 1mph out so I'm not sure how they are going to enforce a zero tolerance.
I agree they would need to show the equipment had a zero error, impossible.

Not everything in life is 100% accurate or perfect. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. When the govt. & police forces are perfect then more then happy for them to enforce a zero tolerance approach.

What a load of codswallop, just a media storm and will come to nothing, as mentioned, car speedos are not accurate enough hence why we have the 10% thing

On my SAC, we were told it was 10% speedo error plus 2% leeway at the discretion of the Chief Constable, and that the Chief Constables have all be told not to exercise said discretion.

So it’s 34 in a 30, NIP in post....
