New brake discs and pads all round on a Granturismo 4.2

Any one had this work done recently and know what a sensible price is?

My GT is with Grimaldi for some work that the selling dealer is paying for and whilst there they've checked the brakes for me. Recommendation is to renew all round.

They've quoted OEM at £2213 and pattern at £1730. Labour is £150 plus VAT in both those quotations.

I'm wondering if that is good, bad or indifferent.

Seems not beyond the realms of probability:

I can't recall what Eurospares charge for pattern parts and their website seems rather broken right now. I fitted FD carbon kevlar pads which I picked up in the US

I just checked my invoice from October last year and the discs from Eurospares were £480+VAT for all of them. I paid USD450 for the pads *and* the valve control kit from FD.

TBF he says £150, not £150 per hour. I can't recall Matt's labour but pretty sure it's not £150 per hour. I could look it up but can't see it on any of the invoices in my mail box

However, ES parts are coming in at more like £900 for patterns pads and discs.

Do it yourself, and that sounds very reasonable or pay a local village garage to fit them for £100, cant see it being any more.

If this is PDI work and the selling dealer are paying then go for OEM...if they wont pay aak for some more money off and then make your own choice of who, what and when.

It's £150 in total for the labour. Not per hour. Not sure how long they've allowed for it.

Unfortunately, the selling dealer is not paying for this work - only for some other bits and pieces.

Your Eurospares price was almost half what I'm being quoted:-

Pattern front discs - £422 plus VAT
Pattern rear discs - £384 plus VAT

I'll call Eurospares tomorrow and get a price directly from them. Grimaldi is right next to Eurospares, so you'd expect that to be the source of the pattern parts.

What is the issue with the discs, are they warped? You can have them skimmed, HR Owen did mine by bolting a machine to the hub and skimming them true to the rotation of the wheel or are the disc end of life?

It worth asking!

They haven't been specific; other than to say they are in poor condition.

To be honest, I have thought there was something wrong since I picked the car up as the brakes just didn't seem up to the job. I frightened myself the first time I drove the car hard when it didn't want to stop. I thought I was going to sheer the brake pedal off, I had to stamp so hard!

Car was put through an MoT just before I bought it and there was an advisory about "pitted" discs but it stated that performance was not affected.

I'll call Grimaldi Engineering tomorrow to discuss the options. I don't want to skimp on things as essential as brakes but there is no point in paying for new discs if there's a better option.

Incidentally, mileage is 21,500.

Did 35000 miles on mine before I replaced discs, pads and EPB shoes. Sounds expensive. I paid £3k for mine at a main dealer including the EPB as said and that includes the fact that the 4.7 has much more expensive front discs.

Always shocked at how much more the 4.7 brakes are above the 4.2...another reason the base car offers so much VFM.
