Mercedes SL from 2015

An S Class and a Boxster are a very different car. The Thread asks for an SLK!!! Which one is it?
Just an addition , "The thread asks for an SLK!!! - initially.

It then moved on to suggestion that might meet the requirements which he listed. Someone suggested a Boxster. I suggested possible choice, but go for a MY2009 onwards example and illustrated the sort of cars within his budget. So as to the question "Which one is it?" The answer is - don't know. But probably ideas have been given to the poster for his consideration. In his own time he will digest and decide and move forward.
As for the blinding glimpse of the obvious that a Boxster and an S class are very different, yes we all know it. But from the wants and essentials list the S-class is probably a better fit and ticks more boxes. Heaven knows what he will choose. That's his prerogative. I only offered a suggestion or two along the journey of his enquiry. What is the problem?

Apart from point 9.. Go and test drive a 640d Grand Coupe. I think it ticks those boxes

If I can force myself I'll go and have a look in the BMW dealer near me.
The last time I was there I had the best looking car in their car park. My Alfa GT.

I wasn't there to buy, by the way, just dropping Alex off to pick up her just serviced company car.

That is why I suggested it, I think it is a great looking car, drives well, is comfortable, will eat miles and there are a few to choose from on the age / price details provided

Have just had a look on Auto Trader and there are plenty to choose from. And relatively inexpensive to be fair.

I know that is why I suggested it - not normally a BMW fan but I think it nicely styled and stands out as a bit special without being in your face.

Jeez Phil, lay off the coffee mate, you seem very irritated of late. Just calm down a bit.

The thread started with opinions on SLK's but am open to suggestions. Hence the other posts.
For the record. I won't be buying and MX5.

Please bring this guy to some state of normality if he has been on too many coffees. This is a public forum of over 3000 members that the owner lets in to encourage sharing of opinions and discussion. It is never going to be the same opinions across the membership and I'll check the forum rules as I think some these remarks and tone appear to be pretty close to breaching some rule or other about member posts. A similar thing happened on 911uK with some unexplained off the wall remarks verging on put downs with little sensitivities and a number of members were cautioned I believe and one was banned for a month after I reported some threatening tone posts against my posts. The result has been regular updates on forum rules reminding members and updates also to guidelines regarding reporting poor experiencess with dealers and specialists. It has reined in aggressive even condescending put downs and behaviour considerably. As the owner of 911UK cited, "every keystroke counts!" But keeping tabs on a membership of over 35,000 members in 911UK is considerably more challenging than the same task across 3000 or so members on this forum. .

Calm your ponies chaps. Contigo and GeoffCapes know each other, it's harmless banter. Contigo loves an MX-5 - and they are great to drive - but he's also a special chap in some ways :)

Mark is a big lad using a car for work, not really going to enjoy showing up in an MX-5 !!

I suggested Boxster, I also think the 640d is a nice looking thing and worth a shout. To be more Merc though (which Mark likes) how about a CL500 which is a car I've considered before. It's basically an S class coupe and is monster value for money.

Good call but the very last ones seem about 2014 and circa £30k

Doesn't tick all the boxes, most obviously fuel economy (although it will do mid twenties at vaguely sensible motorway speeds), and I appreciate it may be too big a step from coupe to estate, but......if I can find a suitable GTS soon, I will be selling my 61 (MY12) plate C63 estate at around that price point. 38k miles, full MBSH, and genuinely excellent condition. Given the range of cars being suggested, just thought it was worth mentioning.

But a completely unknown character to me!

I can't decide on what to replace my E Class work horse with. I don't need 4 seats, but do need something I can comfortably drive from one end other the country to the other and not feel like I need a week in bed to recover.

I've just been looking at Merc SLK's and can't decide whether they are:

A - Hairdressers cars
B - Girls cars

Since they had a facelift, as before they were a definite yes to both.

Thoughts?

You already have a proper car in the GTS so for my money I would go Jaguar XJ all the way. Anything from 2003 onwards will be all alloy 2.7 Twin turbo and they drive all day everyday and eat the miles - and to top it all they are not German.
I have lost count of the nos of XJ’s I have had but think it’s 6 since 2006 and often 40k a year at 40mpg. And in the real world - everyone loves a Jag

For me an MX5 or Boxster or Cayman are not mile eaters. What have you been drinking/eating/smoking?!

You need something big & comfy. especially Mark needs something big & comfy!

Another one on the ignore list.
