Be interesting to compare the stats ( if they exist ) I'd bet that there were less car thefts when old fashioned brass things were used to open and start cars , I think they were called keys if my memory serves me right , have we really taken a step forward with the electronic keyless entry and start ...I think not
they just used to steal them with some packing wrap and a wire coat hanger.. and rub 2 wires together... I've seen the films;) Anyone remember every Ford Cosworth getting knicked daily?...........

good old days were the best anti theft devices, well hidden switch to cut power to coil or even just taking rotor arm out of dizzy if car not used for a while which worked a treat many means ago when scum trying to pinch my defender, I'm sure if you used some sort of hidden switch to cut feed on a modern motor it would be safe as houses no matter how much tech these scum have, back to basics I think, too much tech is not a good thing sometimes

My dad's got a wheel clamp and steering lock on his S class, plus keys in a Faraday pouch, then in a tin.

The car's owner, Dr Renu Raj, told LBC of her "frustration" at how easily the crooks accessed the luxury vehicle before making off with it.
Do these people live in a vacuum? There have been countless alerts about keyless entry hacks going back years. I'm surprised that anyone leaves keyless entry enabled at all. Flicking through the menu to disable it was done before my Levante left the dealers forecourt.

That said, why the manufacturers persist in providing it amazes me. It's trivial to overcome, in some cars you don't even need access to the key, and for what? To force people to have to push a button instead of the car magically unlocking itself. This has to be one of the dumbest uses of technology out there. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

Far to simple to implement and manufacturers couldnt charge the earth for a 50 pence cut out switch

One of my old TVR's had a simple hidden little key you need to insert and turn 90 degrees that disconnected or connected power to the fuel pump. Simple but effective.
