Lancia Thema 8.32 with Ferrari engine

That MOT history checker has proved a useful resource here, that car is not as good as it sounds from the advert although it is fairly cheap for an 8:32.

Although it was hyped as a Ferrari engine it is actually quite different to the Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole engine it was based on. It featured a conventional crank rather than the flat plane crane of the 308 engine and was retuned for torque rather than power. The motor itself was actually built by Ducati, not Ferrari themselves. There are quite a few clips of 8:32s on YouTube and the engine sound is quite different to a 308, sounds much nicer than the 308 motor to me :)

Interestingly a Thema Turbo 16v is actually quicker than the 8:32 but I suppose it doesn't quite have the kudos or the luxurious interior of the 8:32, or the awesome pop up rear spoiler.

The body of the Themas were Saab built and therefore pretty good as far as being rust free was concerned.I owned a Thema turbo;very nice motor car

I understood tha although they shared the same platform design as the Saab 9000 and Fiat Chroma the Saab was made of thicker steel as they were not happy with the standard of crash protection it offered in Italian guise.

That could well be the case, but they were considerably better than the the 70s range.Sadly, the Thema couldn't save Lancia as the damage had been done.'A Lancia tis a Fiata, only rustia'

Looked at these a few times but can't get over the fact that it is not the prettiest car in the world but not surprising it sold it was good value as far as they go.

I like Lancia Themas

The photography of that one isn't terrific and also nowadays it's doesn't look too switch compared to more modern gear.

However, did any of them in the UK actually have the raising rear boot spoiler? I knew a guy who had two 8:32's and his were fixed. The deal breaker for me though- is that unless I'm mistaken 8:32's were front wheel drive...

There's a bloke near me who keeps two 16v turbos on his drive (he's in the Lancia club) and they are both immaculate. As for Saab steel- something funny must be going on as I had two Cromas and I couldn't stop them rusting at the back.. I had them repainted Twice!

Mind you, I know a lot more about being good to Italian bodywork now than I did back then.

Odd marketing - FERRARI ENGINE!!! then the pics show the interior and body work and not one of the engine. Is it just me who thinks thats a bit odd?

Funny you say that as it says it "comes with the Ferrari engine" now does that mean you fit it yourself? :D
