I assume I am ok jump starting the GT?

I haven't got a charger. Halfords cant get a Ctek 5 until 15 Jan and I need to move the car to get my other cars out!!!!!

I can just jump start it right??

On maserati life people are warning against this. But it doesn't make any sense to me. They say you are spiking it and could damage the electronics. Don't see how this could be the case it is doing the same thing as if your battery was live.

Thanks

I understand the instructions are in the hand book...but as you said some frown on it.

An emergency option may be to isolate the battery via the switch. Connect to the doner vehicle and leave them connect whilst the battery takes charge from the other vehicle. After half an hour you should have power to start. Disconnect the donor re connect the battery and start.

The manual describes using an auxiliary battery to jump start it - not much difference between that and a battery fitted to another car... That said, if you do blow your electronics, don't come running to me! Mine was fine though when I did it....

You can get a Ctek from Amazon - cheaper and quicker than Halfrauds.

it depends on what condition your existing battery is in? if its a good battery and just flat then jumps start will probably ok. If the battery is a dud then it may be high impedance and that can cause kicks, and yes you can break stuff, i have done it. The problem is the battery is way at the back and the starter is at the front. safest thing is to fit a new battery and start the car that way. i have only caused damage once when jump starting but have done it, like you through necessity, many times (before the time i broke the rear light controller, after that never again!) so you can jump start, it will most likely be ok :)

Well that was easy. Jump started. Zero problems. Took the car down the motorway for 30mins. All back to normal. Fingers crossed.

I use an Oxford charger rather than the Ctek. Available in any motorcycle outlet etc. Allows me to alter between settings for bike, car, motorhome, bus batteries. Not that I own a motorhome or bus ! Works a treat.

Someone recommended something similar. I think the view is that they are not man enough to do our engines with a totally flat battery, but mostly damned good.

Jump started my old 4.2 in the past without any problems. It was when the battery was starting to become a bit unreliable. When I first got back in the dashboard was full of pretty lights if I recall, but they all went out and everything was back to how it should've been.
