This is a bit of a long shot- I mean- Italian electrics being what they are an'all !

You guys seem to call it the NIT unit...my Info Centre, which actually doesnt do Sat Nav or Phone stuff...Initially I thought, great. Keeping it simple. I can live with that...;)
However...it has started to go on the blink already. It shuts off, then reappears at will. Turning it off at the button doesnt stop it turning itself back on again either..:p
There's obviously a power feed issue with it, but I am guessing...
Anyone care to offer any insight as to why, where, whats involved or just how many hours it's likely to incur to track down and slap the culprit wiring...?

Grtzzz...!!

Get an auto electrician in.

Is it actually rebooting, or just going into standby and back on?

Not entirely sure how to tell the difference...
It goes dark...then comes on with the Info Centre text accompanied by the Maserati logo...then goes to the main screen ( radio station and other functions loike fan, blah blah ) Id rip the dumb thing out as it's so out of date but it's linked to car functions to some degree....Its barely worth the trouble IMO. But I just dont know how much of a ball-ache it represents getting it out and anyway....would I even be looking in the right place ?
Im sure youre right. An auto electrician would know where to start I guess..?

EDIT- That said, I would n't expect an sparky to know how to dismantle the trim/interior...!!

Yes, only the radio works on my info centre - and even then it is pretty rubbish. But I prefer the music of the engine!

Perhaps the soundtrack is more audible in a Spyder ( avatar) but I am at pains to hear mine in the coupe cabin... Actually, just a lot of road noise !

Driving the car after dark, I notice that the center console backlighting is also affected by the the intermittent power connection fault...? I guess I’m wondering why the NIT “powered on”status would affect the console...Is it one power feed...? Do I likely need to pull the display as well, does anyone know...?

Grtzzz....

No it's a different feed I think. We had this issue with mine when it was put back together after a matrix replacement.

That would seem to make sense. I maybe have a matrix issue..
The reason I find it odd is that when the unit goes dark, powering it on at the button to restart it, lights the console if the side/headlights are on...!!
The NIT is an easy get I understand. I'll start here & see what gives...

cheers

Ahhh, are all your buttons and so on going dark as well? If so it's the connection from the NIT. If not it's the connection *to* the NIT, I suspect

So look...
I used the "How to" posted by David ( http://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/nit-units-or-whats-in-the-arm-rest-of-a-4200.679/) but the thing is, with all the screws and such he mentions undone, the centre tunnel will not lift clear..
There is something different in the facelift centre console at a guess but I cant see anything obvious...
The drinks holder is free of hidden screws. The wiring for the mirrors etc off, with the module removed..but it still snags up front. It doesnt seem to be the handbrake.
I gotta fix this issue It comes on constantly at will and will not be switched off, turned down..nothing...! Unfortunately it was programmed to start up as soon as the ignition is live. Meaning I cant switch it off ! The one cable I suspect, the power from the NIT to the dislay, is on the front underside of the NIT...Bleeding thing

EDIT- I guess I can pull the power cable from the display...Peace at last.
Who said it was a couple screws to get to the NIT...!

There are two brackets at the front of the console on the lower edge, you have to pull the carpet back from the transmission tunnel to get to the fixings.

That figures...otherwise it would have nothing much to secure it at the front end !

In answer to your initial question "how longs a piece of string?", the answer is "twice it's distance from the middle to the end".
The problem with that though is how do you know when you've reached the middle!

Sorry about that.
