After meeting Conaero at our 1st Sportsmaserati.com meet at Ace Cafe, he enlightened me about the Becker Grand Prix stereo head unit, which incorporates bluetooth and has ipod functionality. Sure enough, I went on my quest to find one...I say quest because it appears Becker have stopped making them and most vendors are out of stock, with the occasional one with a red or bright blue screen (note: see the BBC radio link on the top right of this page...that's the one). Finally, I found 2 vendors claiming to have the Grand Prix 7993 G (the green version). 1) MyNewCheap.co.uk and 2) Caraudiosecurity.com. I ordered from MNC on Friday only to be told on Monday that they have none in stock...fair enough, it happens...I was just peeved that their online ordering system made me put all my credit card details, etc and claimed I had successfully ordered the unit. So...I quickly called Caraudiosecurity, who said they had 1 left in stock. So I quickly bought it with the, gulp, £100 ipod tether!

Here's the part I wanted to bring to your attention. I got a call an hour later to be told that because the head unit was a showroom display, he could not sell it to me as "new", so he knocked £40 off the unit (i.e. £260 total). The reality is they could have sold it to me at list and not brought this to my attention, but chose to be honest...which is a rare and appreciated thing.

So, hats off to http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/home.html

p.s. If you want to upgrade your existing GS Becker headunit, but don't want the "rice-racer" look of most aftermarket units, I recommend you consider the Becker Cascade Pro, which builds on the Grand Prix, and adds NAV and dual band GSM phone capabilities (it also communicates with the SIM card in your phone), among other things. However, it does cost ~£725.

Do you know what they have replace it with JP, Becker that is. Maybe something in the pipeline.

Well done anyway, you wont be disappointed with it. The mike is pretty easy to install, I ended up removing my A pillar trim, which requires you to remove curtain trim first to get at the top securing nut. The head unit just pops in and out. You may find that the new unit does not fit too well to the carbon recess, you may need to gently sand off the corners of the head unit as they tapper.

It is so much better than the standard head unit I had. Its now in my Alfa and its gutless.

Good luck.
