Any update on this 3200 sump plug size?

Anyone confirm?

One thing I am wondering about 3200 oil change is how to get the oil out of the oil cooler, on my 250ce there is a separate plug which releases the oil of the cooler. On the 3200 I have not notived one..

Hi, you will have to undo a hose, it's fairly simple, nice to see someone else also looking to do this :)

Would you recommend using an additive to remove the sludge like STP or similar? I used to use it on normally aspirated engines, then flush out with a cheap oil, redrain then fill with good stuff. Not sure if its suitable for turbos

i don't use additives for two reasons, the oil gets changed pretty often, and it runs hot so you don't get gunge really. i guess also i am always concerned with what residual effect the additive might have, I am not sure so i don't mess with it.

Reasonably confident that if they made much difference, Maserati would recommend them.

I use a engine flush in my car, no issues and will continue to do so.

It does make it cleaner, one sure way of me knowing this is at work, with every diesel engined car, if I used an engine flush the oil on the dipstick would stay nice and clean for about 500 miles, if I didn't use a flush it used to turn black on the dipstick straight away

Upto you if you use one, but There are some cars out there (renault 1.5dci) if you don't use a engine flush every time the car will actually stop starting after a few oil changes, I have first hand experiance of this and thousands of others do too, so it does work

Only used a flush once, years ago in A35, a short time later the big end shells just fell to bits, not done it since..!! Modern "Good Quality" engine oils, you should not need to..!!

I was thinking that this might be a solution, but I was worried as on my 250CE removing a hose when changing the oil cooler was quite a good muscle training as the threads of the connectors where quite tight and even with a long 27er spanner it took some turns before they got disconnected. So I was assuming hoses from the oil cooler is not a standard maintenance procedure

maybe here its simpler (less force needed) as the hoses are connected to the cooler by the unions 3 and 8,

That's because in them days it was only the sludge that held everything together, I put sawdust in a foes escort gearbox once to quieter the whine
Worked a treat - wouldn't do it on the Mas!

thanks for the tips guys. I ended up buying a sump plug kit.
It is of course 17mm - no idea at all why I thought it was fifteen.
Will check out the oil cooler too. Does it drain from there any way once the dipstick is out and oil filter removed ?

It should do as the oil filter as down on the bottom of the engine, as is the sump plug..!!
