Hello All ! + code read request

Hi All ive taken the plunge and have recently purchased a 2001 Maserati 3200GT. Am amazed by the amount of information on this forum! The car itself runs fine and has had the bottom half of the engine rebuilt.

I understand the "check engine" problem is common and for the first month it only came on in heavy traffic. It has been on constantly the past 2 days (car drives well though still) I've reset the mechanical zero and full throttle position as described and also disconnected and reconnected the battery. fluid levels all fine. The only thing I noticed prior to this is the engine revs go up slightly higher than normal and oscillated a bit more than it normally did.

Was wondering if there's any one local to me that can do a code read on the car to see why the light is still constantly on? I live in Iver, Buckinghamshire (UK). Failing everything I was wondering if anyone can recommend a reasonable maserati specialists near me that can take a look.

Thanks!

You can buy an Autel Code Reader from Amazon for less than £20
This will read the code and tell you what the problem is, allow you to clear it.
So if it is a genuine fault the error will re activate. You can decide how serious it is and an appropriate fix
It may not of course re activate............................

Sorry I do not know Bucks well enough to recommend anyone, but others will be along presently
Good luck - oh and welcome

Thank you for the welcome and advice much appreciated

Im assuming its this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autel-Auto...1461520200&sr=8-1&keywords=+Autel+Code+Reader

would i need to buy any special connectors/adapters with it? and do i need to download any software onto the device for the 3200GT? cheers

If your's is the same as my late 2001 3200GT Oz, you just plug it in..the Can connecting socket is just under the dash on the right hand side

Give me a shout if you get stuck..

If it's not in limp mode then it's not throttle related. There are 3 different types of limp mode with varying degrees of rev limiting controlled by the turbo wastegates.

Our auto car has A CEL on sometimes with no limp mode and it flicks on and off whilst driving which indicates it cannot be a throttle issue as the ignition needs turning off to reset them if it is intermittent. The former owner who had it since new said it has always Done it but nothing any dealer tried had ever fixed it. A 3200 wouldn't be the same without a check engine light!

I would bet it's Lambda sensor related but you need to get the scanner on it.

The car was built 1999, so it's the old connector :)

I did read it couple of years ago but it took me ages doing it, hence I said maybe someone going brooklands could do it for you there as I'm useless :)

Best with an SD2 on a 3200 guys and its a bit of a procedure with all the separate ecu connectors.

Yea I've inherited beau's :) so looks like i need a few more adaptors for the autel connection? Can give it a try unless there's anyone who can bring the connections and kindly clear the error codes for me at Brooklands this weekend :D. It's looking like I probably have to take it to a specialist

Yeah the really need the right diagnostic kit on the earlier models to get in and interrogate the ecu for the offending fault especially with a 3200.

You need a laptop running Unidiag software and a 3 pin Lancia/Fiat connector convertor. There is a thread on here. Ping me if you get stuck!

Thanks for the kind offer. I took it to http://www.autofficina.co.uk/ . Very nice bunch who i highly recommend. they attached a code reader and cleared the errors and the "check engine" light is now gone :) they did a quick inspection as well and it all cost me £30. Hopefully see you at Brooklands !
