No VIN / Production Chart attached, so it's best to have it looked at if your production year is within that specificed.

Good Call Shak..!!

But as a non-mechanic, can I ask: can someone explain what the heck is the defect: "the steel rear driver’s rear passenger tie-rod threaded ends"??

The news on the net is that Maserati will contact all owners in early June this year for replacement of suspect parts. That would presuppose they know who and where you are so if you might be off their radar it might be worth emailing your local main dealer to advise them you own a Maserati that maybe included. I understand all associated work involved in the job of replacing these parts will be included.

Norman,
It means the threaded ends of the tie rods, each side at the rear, are subject to potential corroding.

Got that. My point was, explain what a "rear driver's rear passenger" is....They mean driver's side ?? No, obviously not. They mean rear passenger? Yes, I get that - actually they mean "rear tie rod". Sigh. Pedants make problems for ourselves :).

This probably will not affect your car as the notice is for 2005-2008 QPs and 2008 GTs. May not hurt to check though.

Probably lost in the translation Norman...

I read it as both sides to the rear!

Norman,
The notice was specifically for Mother-in-Laws and Mothers, both are usually back seat drivers, or passengers..!!

Right. I suppose they meant "rear (driver's side) and rear (passenger side)". Anyway the good folks at the NHTSA have marked their homework and rewritten it properly in their summary as "Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 Quattroporte, 2008 Granturismo, and 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C vehicles. The rear tie rod assemblies may have insufficient anti-corrosion material applied, allowing them to weaken and possibly fail."

Though they publish this without publishing the VIN numbers, which is less than helpful. (Mine is later than the period mentioned).

That's 4.5 years, quite a stretch in production, mind you it's not usually a high mileage brand so I suppose difficult to tell..?? If VOSA know about it, all the owners should have been informed by now and booked in..??

No, I think the VOSA thing (it only went up on their site on Monday) is the start of the process, like the one in the USA in the OP. They need to formally notify the national body, and then start the approved recall. I went through this lobbying for a Range Rover recall a few years back (and VOSA were pretty helpful, their engineers at least).

Received my letter today...
Maserati ref:205, Vosa ref R/2013/061.
"...the replacement of the rear tie rods will be carried out free of charge and the vehicle will be needed for approximately 4.0 hours..."
they attach a list of official dealers to contact.

So I take it if your car is affected or possibly affected a dealer or vosa will contact the owner like they did with you?

That is correct, there is even a form in with the letter that they would like sent back if you have sold the vehicle, so they can try and contact the present owner...
my letter was sent by Maserati GB Ltd.
