Handbrake slipping

Hi,

my handbrake slips while stopped on a steep gradient. Seems the QP like the 4200 etc have a seperate brake system for the handbrake (inc pads etc). Whats the usual problem? Simply new brake shoes? Is this a DIY job?

Called an independant today, he said they need to strip the handbrake system down first (cost 150 + vat) to diagnose problem then order parts.

Simon, there is a very helpful DIY guide elsewhere in the forum. It has a step by step guide with piccys. Using this guide I adjusted my handbrake and sorted it out just by cleaning the drum face and the shoes and now works as it should. You can get new shoes from a dealer or get them greengrippered by Belfast brakes. A couple of hours if you are half handy with spanners and will save you at least £200.

Yep, the QP, like the GS, 4200 and 3200 has impressively atrocious brakes. Check out the Maserati store where you can supplement them with "due mattoni rossi monogramma. €145.00 for a pair plus shipping.

So all I need is a support truck to run behind me and place the bricks everytime I stop at a steep junction? Maybe a small child hanging out of the boot?

Given the average size of a 21st Century child in relation to the size of the QP boot, I'd be tempted to rivet said child to the front bumper of said truck rather than ensconcing the little urchin in the lap of Maserati luggage-oriented luxury.
