GT or GS

You ll need a football stadium to park a GT in . its a barge ;P

I have just had to make the same desicion from a 4200 , exept mine was between a GS or a 4.7 Mc shift . I still went for the GS . I just like coke bottle shaped classic looking cars , always have . I did nt belive it till i jumped out of my 4200 into the GS , but its a totally differant car .

If you want to buy a GT though i would suggest Feloniuos Cruds . Great car imho, absolute bargains ! and 4.7 s . .

There is no secret of my love for the GranSport and yes the GT is vast.

One think I would say thought is when sitting in Urbys GS, the first one I have sat I since I sold mine, it is feeling its age inside. OK you could circumnavigate this by saying its classic but slipping back into the Strad felt a more special place to be.

performance wise there is little in it and with a GS they are rising where as a GTS has still a little way to go yet.

One thing is for sure though, as the engines get smaller and Maseratis pursuit of the V6T, the legacy V8's will be sort after and in demand over the next decade.

Its a tough decision.

Oh, it’s not that hard a decision. Buy mine. I’ll even commit to making sure none of my family are still in it.

In my view the GS is closer to a Strad than a 4.7 MC shift on numbers sold.

I can't really comment as I haven't driven a GT (nor do I own a GS) BUT... I'm going to anyway!

For me I am put off by the price of the discs on the 4.7 and the potential for the variators to go (which is more common on the 4.2 I know)... that plus new wishbones every 20k and other consumables wearing out quicker due to the weight of the GT...

I would get GS because it will likely be a little better looked after than a 4.7 at the lower end of the market and they are a little more special in my eyes

The clue’s in the names. Unusually in the world of inventing names for cars, the Gransport and the Granturismo are more or less as their names suggest. I’ve done a 2k mile, 4-up, boot-jammed-full pan-European family tour in the GTS and there is no car on the planet I would rather have done it in. It was perfect. A GS would have been a good bit more jiggly and a bit less roomy.

Decide what you want and go from there.

(According to me, at least.)

I went for a GS, if my garage was 14inches longer I'd have gone for GT. However I'm still very happy making the leap from a 3200. I can understand can't comments on refinement, build quality etc as I've notice a big leap since upgrading so it must be the same going to a GT.
Coming from 3200 reliability, the potential running costs of either did not bother me.

I did test my garage with a GT and it just about fit. It was just a bit too showy for me. The GS seems to press all the right buttons.

All Maseratis’ are showy but you buy which you want. For me the GS is just a very old car now. However for a high days and holidays car I can see it but for more regular use I would want the newer car.

I’m still going to use the BMW as a normal car and man-maths tells me that if I keep it for 4 years, rather than the usual 2 1/2, I’ll save enough to pay for the Maserati. Or something like that!

I'd take a GT 4.7 MC Shift over a GS. But I'd take a GS over a GT 4.2 auto.

Thank you all very much for the opinions and advice, I was leaning toward the GS anyway and Ewan's statement just seems to sum it all up. Out of the two cars I was contemplating the GS is also situated a lot closer, so I will go and have a look and a test drive. That said, there is still something about the 4200 which still really appeals to me, I personally love the look and it may sound daft but if they still made them I would buy one again, they are not dated in appearance, not in my eyes anyway. I better stop before I talk myself out of it! So thanks again, much appreciated.

I get what you are saying re the 4200.

If I could find one like my second one with low miles and good history I would seriously think about swapping my GS for it and also getting a daily 4.2GT.

I dont need or want the extra power or running cost of the 4.7 and those two would meet my needs of grace and pace in an understated manner.

It’s certainly a novel discussion! I presume copious amounts of inhaled hallucinogens are involved

There's one in my garage.....just gave it a hug after fixing the XC90 blower ;)
