GT New windscreen

I had a lot of horror stories about getting a new windscreen for my GT. Some saying the costs was as high as £4,000. Anyway did the sensible thibg and contacted Autoglass and claim through insurance. Checked on phone that it could be done by a mobile screen fitter and did not have to go to workshop. Man turned up and after a lot of faffing with removing scuttle and windscreen wipers fitted the new screen. I'm very happy and it costs me £75 excess.

If anyone wants to know the steps I am happy to post on here

I had a big crack in the windscreen but insisted that the MD did the work. Cost to me £75, cost to insurer £1750!

3rd year in a row I have to replace windscreen. Autoglass are very good

How do you go on with insurance quotes, they ask about glass claims as well these days and while it doesn't affect your NCB does the premium increase

Autoglass do it all for you. No need to get quotes. Windscreen replacement doesn't effect your NCB according to the insurance clausee

I wasn't too bothered about having a maserati screen as they are made by same company just different logo. Not sure how it works if you insist on it

I had a new screen fitted after a crack appeared a couple of months ago. My insurer ( through A-Plan) uses National Windscreens. They called me to make the appointment and I insisted on oem as the car was my pride and joy. The guy on the phone said he would have to obtain approval from the insurer. Called me the next day and said it was approved, but I'd have to wait for the screen to come from Italy. Ok by me. Couple of weeks later it was fitted. It cost me £50. The funny thing is, the broken screen was not oem!

My new OEM screen is going in next week. Hopefully they show up with the right one as it took 3 attempts and nearly 3 months of waiting last time!

I had the same thing. I did try to insist that the MD did it but Aviva said they would only contribute their cost less the £75 excess so £110 in total. Autoglass were fine though it needed a few days for the purchasing department to sort themselves out. I knew JCT in Leeds had some in stock so I think they just went there for them rather than waiting for it to come from Italy judging by the speed with which they got it sorted.

Sorry that's not what I meant, when you get quotes for insurance they ask about any claims including glass claims and while they don't affect your NCB I was wondering if the premium had increased over the 3 years because of the claims,I imagine they've paid out considerably more in new screens than they've collected in premiums

Insurance goes up every year but not due to windscreen claims as the discount is the same but the premiums increase by about 5% per year anyway

Silly Q I Know
I have a chip on my QP w/screen drivers side down below line of sight so no problem with passing an MOT.
However it bugs me
I took it to Autoglas 2 years ago and they said it had already been fixed (not necessarily by them) and no further repairs were required. It is not a great fix.
So I wondered the order to go about replacing the screen in future.
I suppose it is check with my insurance first then try and source a replacement via Autoglas?
Not sure I will even do it at all, but it does annoy me.
Advice please.......................

Live with it, spend the money saved on petrol and a weekend away, I doubt the insurance would replace a screen for a chip that's not a MOT fail

Throw a brick at it, then you'll have a valid reason for getting it replaced! :rofl5::rofl5:

Make sure there still available first though:cool:

Then just whack it with a hammer, throwing bricks around damages paintwork;)

For the 2nd year in a row, Autoglass have just shown up with a Gransport windscreen. One phone call from their installers and the guy at the office said "what did they order that for, the notes from last year show the correct part details".

Geniuses.

And the wait goes on. Again.
