GranSport vs. Ferrari F430 - how much difference is there in the real world?

It's a personal opinion, but i think you look a bit silly driving a Lambo in middle age. You need to do it when you're young and foolish. In my mid 30's I had three Diablos on the trot over about a 5 year period and used each as my daily car. Great at the time - but not an option now I'm married and have two little girls to ferry about.

I know you'll all think this is mad, but i' struggling to decide between a QP IV and a 612 as my daily, school-run, car. A lot of people don't like the look of either, but to me, that's part of the appeal.

Back to the subject.

The 430 would annihilate a GS. Not a massive fan of Ferrari but the 430 I would have, black coupe not Spyder with dark tan interior.

My mate has had 2 and I have been in it a few times and its totally different to a GS.

Not knocking the GS, its just fact.

hate the 612, like the FF. I would love to have one 430 one day (not red, maybe black), or a 458. But again they'll be used much less then the 4200 i have now. A Mas is an all around supercar.Even the GTS Stradale.

And i agree, even if i liked Lambos, i wouldn't feel comfortable to drive a gallardo at 45.

Other way for me...Take a Gallardo over any 2 seater Ferrari......even if they are getting on a bit......

I don't really see these as genuine rivals.

..... at 45 I'm now too old to drive a Lambo, so my realistic choice is now down to the the 3.

No they are not at all and but that's not why I am asking, rather my reference point is the GS and if we go to a 3 car family making a 430 a viable option, I am trying to get a feel from other owners on just how much of a step up this might be. Before moving to the UK my daily was an Evo Ix with some light mods, sure the look, image and even sound were not ideal but the fun I had in that car over 3.5 yrs of ownership made it worth it. The handling was staggering. The GS is one of the prettiest cars on the road and sounds good but doesn't come near the IX for driving fun, it delivers pleasure through different how it makes you feel not what it delivers.

I'm 43 and had never thought for a second about being too old for a Gallardo. I would however steer towards the more subtle colours and the same would apply for the 430, the last thing I want to own is a red Ferrari. Greys, blues etc are more my preference.

That is what I was expecting (hoping!) to hear. Never had the pleasure of being a passenger in much exotica at all, owning a GS and a v10 M5, plus one short ride in a 911TT is it. IN Australia the 430 was an impossibly dream, in the UK its within reach so you find yourself wondering :)

GT3 RS is really a safe bet because it is universally hailed as about the best drivers car, running costs too are much more reasonable plus the renowned Porsche reliability. It would surpass my Evo IX experience in every way and that holds a lot of appeal. But so does the opportunity to own a Ferrari....

Thanks for all the thoughts, appreciate hearing from like minded enthusiasts who are not blinded by brand loyalty.

PLus the GT3 RS is unlikely to drop much money if looked after......They seem to be pretty stable at the moment.

Hmmmm

F430 handles way better than a GS - totally different league, far too much weight over the front of the GS for it to come anywhere near the 430. Theres a level of feedback you get that's just totally absent in the GS, and probably not wanted by most people that drive them. Only ever driven one on a track but I bet it's the same on the road. Having said that I would also guess the 430 would be a heck of a handful in the wet, doubt you'd want to take it out if there was any chance of rain, you'd probably get overtaken by toyota aygo's.

360CS would be my weapon of choice from that stable though - until the happy day a 458 falls within justifiable reach.

GS is a lovely car for the road and scarily capable round a track given the engines at the wrong end.

A 360CS would be brilliant but they seem to have really firmed in price, wouldn't get much change from 100k now which makes the 430 the default choice, especially as I would prefer a manual.

Bit rare arent they? If it were a manual I'd stick with a 360; F1 in 430 feels much better than GS. I suspect the GS box is based on the 360 - but someone will probably tell me I'm wrong :)

Yes manuals in 430 do seem quite scarce but I am curious as to why you recommend a 360 if going for a manual? As this will be a third car no matter what we buy it will have to be a manual, unless its a 360cs which is highly unlikely!
