Rattling cats? Sounds more like the manifold skins to me usually goes when warm. I'd also be wary of Variators or accumulator issues if it's a loud rattle etc... It sounds like an unloved project car to me and I'd be looking at paying a few k less than the car is advertised at now.

Buy a decent one in the first place would be my advice.

The rattling 'cats' could also be the double skinned manifold welds coming apart.
I would imagine (with labour) that would cost as much as if it was the cats that had failed.

If the cats had failed they don't rattle, they just clog the exhaust up.

The rest are fixes which can be done fairly cheaply.

Beat me to in on the manifolds.

I don't think GS/4200's had an issue with variators did they?

The dealer ran to shut down the engine when a loud rattling noise started. That would certainly put me off buying the car, especially a Maserati. He must have been aware of the issue and not intending to fix it as he's just had car serviced at his local specialist ready for sale.

All I can say is I recognised the sound and on my car it was the car's and not the double skins (I suspected those on my car and was wrong).

It ISNT though an unloved project car. That is far too harsh. It's clearly been looked after and just needs a few bits. It's easy to get dragged into thinking it's a shed but I've seen it and it's a tidy car.

Seller told me that a Gransport does not have a red key. Is that correct? If not, then be aware there isn't one.

You'll never need the red Hi-Tag card, a mechanical code card for programming keys can be ordered.

The seller is very strange, I tried to call him three times about the 3200 he has up for £11,995. No answer and no call back.

After the fourth call he answered and we discussed a little about the car, I asked if he was open to offers to which he said the price was non negotiable. I said I'd think about it.

Next day the car is down to £10,995, the day after £9995. Now its up at £13,995..... He's a clown.
