Gran Turismo Wheel Spacers?

Hi all,

Ive searched the forums and found some helpful info on this topic. Im just looking to hear from anyone with a Gran Turismo who has done this and whether it was a good or bad thing overall (ive heard about potential bearing issues etc). What has the experience brought? If you have done this, what size spacers did you run front and rear and what brand spacer did you go for (H&R etc). The car would look so much better (IMO) with the tyres level or slightly wider than the arches, rather than lost within them but I do not want to introduce other problems so just looking for some advice please.

Thanks all

Bought some from Larini a few weeks ago, but haven't found a window of opportunity to fit them yet...

Worth confirming they're legal where you are. They're not where I live which is why I sent mine back. Good excuse for an insurer to deny a future claim.

Bumping for some Bank Holiday afternoon assistance... Midway through doing the wheels spacers (formula dynamics) and I have two questions for the wise folk here...

1) you need to remove and discard these two bolts (see pic below) - there's no recess built into the back of the wheel spacers and the instructions say they're unnecessary and just there for ease of aligning wheel bolts with holes. Sound right??

2) not having anyone else around in the house today... when you come re-tightening the spacers onto the front wheel, the disc / fitment rotates i.e. you can't tighten as much as you should because of the rotation - and you obviously can't hold it with your hands enough against the torque wrench. The EPB is on, but I'm guessing that's not holding the fronts - or not that much. Therefore, is the only way around to get someone to stand on the brake pedal whilst you're tightening them? Of course, its not a problem once the wheel is on the ground for doing the wheel itself, but I'm kind of sensitive to the idea of the spacer and by extension, the wheel, not being as well tightened to the car as it should be!!!! I should add, this isn't a problem on the rear as the EPB is holding the rear ok.

As you say, as far as I know, those bolts are surplus.

EPB only works on the rear.

Can you jam something against the brake pedal to hold the fronts? I used to drop a tool box on the pedal on previous cars. I can't see tightness really being a problem but I get your point.

Cheers - thanks for the speedy reply re the bolts. It's reassuring!

I phoned a friend in the end who came and applied sufficient pressure to the pedal in the end... Job completed - I think the last pic shows them best, but the car does aesthetically sit a little high. Perhaps that's for another day though... :

Big improvement! Best mod I've done to mine. After the x-pipe. And maybe the stripe.

By the way, now you need to get your four-wheel alignment done or your tyres will wear unevenly and your handling will be a bit off.

Fortuitously it is going in this week (the passenger seat squeaks whenever anyone is sat in it), so I'll see about getting the alignment done at the same time.

Has anyone dropped there's an inch or so? As I mentioned, it still sits a little high at the rear for my aesthetic desire...

Beau has, but his is pretty 'street' anyway! I've heard it can knacker the handling, but the Strad is lower so it clearly isn't a huge deal. Importantly, these cars are long and low and easy to bottom out already. Lowering it would make that worse. Despite that issue I had planned on dropping mine but the spacers actually went most of the way to solving the aesthetic issue of too much fresh air blowing round above the rear wheels, so I didn't boter in the end.

When you say street you mean polite way of saying ruined? :D

Beau's hits and bottoms out on speed bumps every time he goes out in it and he has to carry a piece of wood to jack the front up over the humps. It's low enough already let alone lowering it any more.

That does look very nice - and is noticeably different to the normal look - what size spacers did you go for?

They were from Formula Dynamics, sourced via Larini. Fronts have 22mm and rear is 25mm.

Edge of Oxshott, strictly speaking Esher - so not very far away at all.

That's v close indeed! We used to live on the border of Oxshott / Stoke d'Abernon before I went over to the US for a few years, so know the area well. Will look out for you on the roads (especially for the Huracan!)...

Do you use Maranello to look after the Maserati, or have you found an independent? I'm still wavering between Maranello or Autofficina in Epsom...
