Agree; I can lease a top spec brand new Nissan EN-200 van (fully electric) for £440/month to get into London, I suppose that is the reality for me and keep a soot chucker for longer runs... Didn't want to for another couple of years as I hope the tech will improve and in particular the range.

New Zealand is quite free in that way.
They had to scrap the TV licence as no one would pay for it.

I'm glad I don't live in or anywhere near London

This...Best come to Chepstow as we are scrapping the Severn abridge toll at the end of the year so free to get in.... Nice clean air (well cleaner than London), beautiful country side and great driving roads.....

That’s crazy, I’d be surprised if that goes through without being radically changed. There will be court cases and appeals galore about that.

Especially as there is no reliable UK online database for Euro emission standards for cars. Although I'll still avoid that little dot in the bottom right hand corner of the UK if driving - they have public transport down there if you need to get around.

Part of the reason we are looking at Ireland

In Ireland if you want a decent car you’ve got to pay 36% of its value to import it if it’s got a decent engine in it. Rest of the U.K. is fine, it’s just London that are doing this.

Its not importing that is the issue but VRT (which is registration tax) on any car under 30 years old, over £8k to take the RR over, so just need to find an older daily classic.

On the otherhand once you get out of Dublin house prices are much cheaper, it costs much less to put the kids through university and the pace of life is so much easier

Yes property is miles cheaper. VRT is the same as import duty as you can’t use it unless you register it anyway.

Personal import the Range Rover, Giulietta is over 30 years old, Q4 is staying here until restoration complete which leaves the SZ - not 30 years old yet, poor emissions and high value but I am sure we can come up with a plan

That's THE UK is it not? ;)

The original post refers to something that's happening in London not the UK,, I know anyone living outside the UK thinks London is the UK , I was just saying 200 miles away is near enough for me.
