I have decided to sell my 4200, to fulfil my long held dream of a Ferrari.

I suspect I will look back and consider this the best car I've ever owned - effortless performance, F1 gearbox and four proper seats.
Any way - it is being advertised on Pistonheads and CarandClassic. Brief details here - happy to chat about this (or 4200s in general!). Any inspection welcome.

2004, facelift model - Nero Carbonio wit light grey interior. Sat Nav (whic is awful!) with Main dealer service stamps until I bought it in September 2012, when Shiltech have serviced it and looked after it for me.

49,000 miles, (but being used as my daily driver so this will increase). Just had tracking done and two new front tyres (Vredesteins), undersealed and paint correction - looks stunning.

Currently on private plate which is not included.

Sorry to see you leave the fold David, however, Ferrari are a good second best. Which one are you going for? BTW, good luck on the dark side!

Lovely looking car, sure you'll regret it! Depends, are you buying a 458? I'd assume 360 or 456?? Pray tell....

Thanks Chaps.

Short version of a long story - I've always tried to make one car do every job - fun and practical. My previous car was a Jag XK8 - lovely car, but my two sons outgrew the rather small '+2' seats. The 4200 answers that issue beautifully, along with being rarely seen, an exotic name, a beautiful sound, stunning perf... etc (oh dear, they are pretty good cars, aren't they?!).

Anyway, where was I? The time has now come when I have decided to bite the bullet and get two cars - one practical car (we may be getting a dog) and scratching that school bioy itch (no, not that one) and get a Ferrari. Old one (and small enough to get into my recently refurbished little garage) - a 308 GTB. Prices have rocketed for them over the past 6 months, so we will see if it works out.

I genuinely think it will be the one, everyday car I will miss most. It has been reliable, comfortable, exciting... well you guys know.

Of course, if a 308 doesn't happen, Meraks look rather nice (and have four-ish seats), so I may be back.

One big advice on 308GTB. If its an early glassfibre model, the whole front, is one piece, and any dents here, is extremely costly, to put right. And they all leak around the doors, even steel versions.
Last, servicing is stupidly expensive, and every 2-3k. And the steering and gate change gearbox, feel strange, due to the ackerman effect on steering, and cool box oil. and are crappy at low speeds, but upwards of 50, both come alive! Hope your left leg is strong, for that clutch! At least on the Merak, no such issues!!
Still a great looking iconic car!!!

Sorry to read that you're selling David, but it looks a great example and I'm sure it'll generate a lot of interest. Have you got the guys at Shiltech keeping their eyes out for a 308?

David you wont be leaving the fold just keep us upto speed with your adventures. I'm lucky to be custodians of both great marks. My 4200 has been a great car bettering all my expectations. I had the same dilema wanting a Ferrari its the prancing horse and so far she is meeting my needs. One life live it and no regrets. Phil.

Andy, Thanks for your pouints regarding the fibre glass 308s. These have really sped upwards in value over njust the last 6 to 9 months, with a couple (apparently) selling for c £60k. So, it will be a steel bodied (pref carb, but could be a QV).
Miles,I have indeed got Shiltech looking and pick their brains everytime I visit. I was there last week and they had 2 308 GTBs and a 328 GTB in, (for servicing etc, rather than for sale). It is quite unusual to see more GTBs than GTSs. Having a good local indi is key to making this purchase realistic and Shiltech taking on Maserati servicing was what swayed me to buy a Maserati in the first place.
Phil, I am quite excited,I must admit. It may be a while before I find the right car to buy, but that is art of the fun.

I am probably going to Auto Italia on Sunday, so may meet one or two of you there.

Price drop to £16,950.
Tricky things to price, given the low number of sales, as per recent posts.
