Any advantage in 5W40 Castrol regards consumption and protection or am I being dumb? The spec is 10W60

1 litre per 1000 miles. If it isn’t then there is something wrong. Turbo’d After all...

I would agree the car uses oil on a pretty steady basis and quite reliably. I am not really that clued up on oils and use the Selenia racing recommended in the manual. I think the oil requirement for this car is tricky as it lubricates the turbos and so must see very high temperatures. It also has the problems we are discussing here with leakage past the piston rings causing oil burn so the absolute best oil that will not cause any problems is not as simple as it might seem. For that reason my car always has Selenia Racing. I did run it for a while on Castrol Edge and saw no problems but with oil the trouble is you don't really know what's going on inside the engine.

These are old school tech engines originating from the late 80's...so what if they use a little oil..
Chuck in good quality synthetic oil and there fine, the trick is to change it regularly whether they need it or not, due to the turbo bearing heat sink

And don't forget to let the engine idle for a couple of minute's before you turn it off!

I had a mate in the 80's, always left his car in first, and when going home, jumped in it, clutch down, start, clutch up, accelerate, off. All in like half a second.

I didn't matter cos it was a Morris Marina or Ital, but that's not possible in a QP, you have to wait 30 secs for all the beeps to stop and the Auto to Manual button show some interest...

I've had my car getting on for 6 years, I had to top it up the other day for the first time, it took about 1/2 pint to get it back to the top of the marker on the stick... it basically doesn't use oil... guessing there's something wrong then... but it's a problem that hasn't given me any pain yet in the 6 years of having the car.
