I was meant to go to Brands Hatch yesterday for the Maserati racing, but due to a mess up with the tickets being sent recorded delivery which I couldn't sign for whilst on holiday and couldn't collect from the post office on Saturday night when I got in or Sunday morning, I ended up not going. A real shame as I had Maserati hospitality passes and grandstand tickets for me and my mate.
So to make up for letting my mate down, we went out for a little drive in the GT-S. I went through the normal "this is what it sounds like in normal mode.... and this is with SPORT" which was greeted with all the right noises from him.
I then pulled over and told him it was his turn - he couldn't believe it - I have never seem anyone quite so nervous as when he pulled away with me in the passenger seat. He soon settled down though and then went on the extole the virtues of the beasty.
On a B road between Bicnacre and Maldon I told him to pull over, swiftly jumped out of the car and told him there's a roundabout up the road that I wanted him to blast up to and back past me so I could hear what it sounds like. He seemed more than happy to do this for me...
As it pulled away it was a lot louder than I expected, but oh, what a noise. And you can hear the bloody thing for miles! From where I jumped out to the next corner was about 1/4 mile, I could hear each of the downshifts he made for the corner and then the upshifts.... and then the downshifts for the next one about a mile or so away!
Coming back toward me I didn't hear the car until it was on the straight heading toward me. This time mainly induction roar. I was stood on a corner, which my mate downshifted for and powered round at may be a smidgen over the national speed limit. Stood on that corner I was like an over exited schoolboy, the grin on my face, the involantary "wow" that came from my lips and the fcuking pride I felt. Really very good indeed.
After I dropped my friend off home he and his partner were in the garden listening out as I worked my way through traffic to the A12 from the middle of Chelmsford, they reckon that they could still here me about 5 mins after I left!
Later that night my friend sent me a text saying that it was a shame we couldn't make the racing, but that it was irrelevant as blasting around in the GT-S had made his weekend - to be honest, hearing it as he blasted past me pretty much made my weekend too.
Next time, we'll have video footage for noise appreciation.
