Diamond cut refurbishment

Has anyone with diamond cut finish alloys had them refurbished? I have the 20" Urano diamond cuts, and they've been done once, lasted about 18 months before the corrosion has returned. I dont want to go powder coat unless I can get a similar look to them.
Anyone powder coated them?

I have found some examples on ebay of "gunmetal powder coat"...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-...E-ALLOY-WHEELS-/112420444236?oid=263536368789

And a flat silver...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-...m=173169824175&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

I dont mind the gunmetal but think the flat silver looks a bit naff.

The other option is getting them re cut again...

I'm pretty sure that The Wheel Specialist, a well-regarded franchise, does diamond cut refurbs.

Yes they do, I’ve had the 20” Uranos done by them, not cheap though, about £120 a corner.

I've had mine for 8ish yrs with no corrosion

maybe the wheel was not fully sealed, I would take them back and discuss it with them, should not be doing that after only 18months ?

I suspect its microns being cut but is their a limit how many times you can re-cut a wheel ?

The main dealer did the refurb (or certainly they arranged it) the fisrt time. I will wait to see what they say. There are no scuff marks whatsoever, all the corrosion is from inside (the laquer is unbroken, or appears to be)

8 years with no corrosion is amazing from what Ive read with diamond cuts. Do you do anything special to preserve them?

I'll see what the dealer says on (a) if they can be re cut again (I know theres a limit on how many times it can be done), and (b) if they offer any discount or goodwill at all..

They have advised not to do them again as they have been done once...

My understanding was you get 3 goes at it, depending on how bad the damage is. After that it’s likely to be new wheel time.

Well effectively they were done twice last time, as they messed up the finish, but the damage was light
This time there is no external damage at all. I dont think they are interested frankly. I will take locally to get a second opinion.
Powder coating can restore them to new, though without the polished finish. If they cant be re cut I think Id go down the powder coat in this colour...

Phil at my bodyshop does them...in a slightly unorthodox way but I've seen them and they look great, £75 a wheel:

He wet sprays them then mounts the rims to a wheel balancing machine and has a sanding pad that he uses to remove the paint from the highlights then lacquers them.

no nothing special other than keeping them clean and waxed / sealed 3-4 times a year - I use Swissvax Autobahn. I also try not to drive in the rain if forecast.
I do have 2x wheels with small verb marks  I cleaned these up making sure they were dry and oil free, then added some laquer - you can see the small marks but no corrosion has got in

maybe its moisture - have you put any wax or sealant on the wheels / do you store the car in a garage

No I dont do anything other than wash them. Car is outside, and is a daily driver including winter. 75k miles on it now

well done - thats how the cars are meant to be driven :) I also don't feel bad about my mileage (almost the same)

as its left outside I wouldn't have them diamond cut, as you suggested go for powder coating - lot easier to look after... I would recommend getting some wax / sealant on them just before winter to protect them.

Am I correct in saying that you can only re-furb diamond cut alloys a certain amount of times?
I'm pretty sure they alloys on my Merc were supposed to be diamond cut but the previous owner/dealer just had a standard refurb on it.

Yes thats right as the process effectively shaves off the top surface. I suppose it will all depend on the depth they have to do this to repair scuffs/chips/corrosion

I have eventually got round to booking it in with a local specialist. I am going for a light chrome shadow (which is like a light gunmetal). I will post pics once theyre done.

It needs 4 new vavle stems aswell, which I have sourced from TPMSwarehouse. Maserati Leeds would not give me a part number for the TPMS sensors (to match the right stem). Flatly refused. GreyPaul Birmingham were happy to provide it!

Maserati colchester were surprisingly cheap for the parts for my refurb, the TPMS valve stems were less than a tenner each and the new centre caps I think we're about £20 for the set!

Yes they told me they dont do the stems seperately and you have to buy the whole unit (£61 each!).. I paid £36 for 4 stems delivered.

I will see what the centre caps look like. They were cheap once upon a time, they are about £30 each now!
