Cracked Front Hubs

During a recent service at Mcgraths including checking the wishbones cracks were found in the front hub where the steering track rod end connects to the hub, so another item to add to the check list. I have written to Maserati and will see what they say but doubt I will get any joy.3299 hubs 001.jpg3299 hubs 007.jpg

Ooh, that's not good. Mine's due a service next moth, so I'll be sure to give it a good check over. Thanks for the heads up.

Not if it's forged alloy at any rate. At least they're only £400 each. You can't blame that one on expanding bushes though. Wonder what the excuse will be this time? I've only viewed this on my mobile, but the cracks look to be on the raised bit like wishbonegate.

Personally I don't think this is as bad as the wishbones.. well.. not quite as bad..

One of mine cracked after hitting a pot hole. The other I'm not sure.. but probably due to some blunt impact force.

I'm very wary of potholes these days... these cars are fragile...

This also effects early 4200 cars which use the same hub. When mine were replaced l was told maserati only had 7 left but not sure if they Wii make anymore.

Agree with where the crack is Trevor., all adds to the argument of poor design. I just find it unbelievable that a car that cost so much when new has parts which can be predicted to fail........and not 100k down the road either!

I am sure if suppy becomes an issue that Eurospares or the like will commission a pattern part.

How many miles/km have your car done?

Hi 64,000 approx 100,000 Km always Garaged and serviced, the hubs look a good casting / forging and the area where the track rod end connects to is bushed and looks to have plenty of thickness, but again the crack is on the area of the forging line. Seems like this could be age related although our roads now have loads of pot holes but I have not hit any large ones.

Trevor, there is steel insert pressed into the casting and its machined to take the taper of the track rod so the aluminium casting is not put under stress.
