Do we have any experts on the forum? I need, in my capacity as her attorney, to get my mother in law's house deeds changed to remove her husband, who has passed away. Then we're just about done with the estate.

I imagine I could work out how to do it, but quite keen to just get it done

TIA

My mother's house deeds were left as is, with my father who passed away a good few years earlier still on them. It wasn't an issue, we just had to provide his death certificate and will. House is on the market with me as the executor. Scottish Law may be different in this case though

Oh that's interesting, ta. Given the grief we've had over the FIL's estate, I'm keenish to get everything lined up for when it does need to be sold as simply as possible.

same with my late mother in law, not changing the deeds as house passes to her husband and house held in both names equally.

Having said that, I think it’s only a form you have to fill in with the death certificate- so no biggy

Depends how the house was first owned. Joint tenants or tenants in common. With the former full ownership is taken when other party dies. With the latter it will depend on the other party’s will (England - as explained by my mouthpiece brother).
