Colours

Hi. Following on from my wanted thread, in which I expressly state I do not want a black car, I am now thinking of going to see a black (carbonio nero) car...

Obviously I will form my own opinion when I see it, but in some photos this colour does seem (to my eyes, on a screen etc) to appear almost very dark grey. Is it one of those colours that changes materially depending on the light? Or am I just trying to convince myself!

I appreciate that, in summary, I am asking if something described as black is really black. But having decorated a few houses in Farrow & Ball, one thing I know is that there are a LOT of different whites out there...

Grigio Granito is grey that can look very dark in certain light. The black really is a black.

I have had Grigio Alfieri, Grigio Granito, Nero and Nero Carbonio- of which the Grigio Granito was my favourite cos it really was both grey and black depending on the light. Nero was too flat so Nero Carbonio was my next favourite cos the metallic really does “pop” on a sunny day - if I have cleaned the car!

Thanks all. Not a surprising answer, I guess... I had thought it was grigio granito that I had in mind. What I don't know with the nero carb, which only I can decide, is if it's the colour or the lack of pop on most black cars that turns me off. Many, many years ago, I did nearly buy a "black gold" Clio 182, which was a metallic black as I recall. I think I just need to go and see one in real life.

Colours is a tough one. There is no denying that when clean and polished up, nothing beats Nero Carbonio but by the time you have put your cloths away its covered in a layer of dust. If you then brush against it, it looks dirty again. My last GS was Nero and it was a constant clean especially by the time you drive an hour to meets. It was very frustrating and I said I would never buy a black car again. I now have a white Strad which I really love and always looks clean. Blues were similar to the blacks, Med is georgous but similar experience to the black. I like red but they show the stone chips. Out of all of them, a great colour as a half way house that had some gloss but did not show the dirt was Grigio Alfieri. Same goes for the interior. Black I have not been a fan as they look a bit gloomy and the dust is a constant issue. White/Avorio shows the dirt really bad. Tan, tobacco and red are really good to live with. The darker red, almost burgundy in the Alfieri GS was probably the best combination Ive had to date for style and durability.

Suppose you just have to go with the one you love but for now, am sticking with white but fashion dictates that it will go out of fashion soon.

There is no doubt the GTS looks good in carbonio but if you don't want a black car I think you will regret buying one. Black, especially with black interior, appears to have gone out of fashion to some extent judging by how long a Scottish forum member took to sell his GTS auto.

Matt (Conaero) has given you an excellent guide. A classic choice for a Maserati is blue with tan, which is more common with the auto box for pre facelift cars. A shade of silver/grey will disguise the stone chips and a darker trim will wear better.

At the end of the day it's simple; buy when you see a colour combo come up for sale that appeals. I don't think the GTS has a particularly wide range of colours to choose from unless a special order.

Thanks again. Of course, you are all absolutely right. It's a personal preference, and whilst I see the appeal of other options, I think I'll hold out for grey or silver. As has been said before, I think each colour gives a slightly different character to the car. I just *want* to like black, as it opens up a lot more of the secondhand market!

Mine is grigio granito. Sometimes it looks black and sometimes it looks very dark grey.
I have had black cars in the past (prob never again) and can tell you the dust on black stands out much quicker.
