Absolutely agreed - not the view from my insurance company though. On a new car I could not get insurance, or at least good insurance, without the tracker in service. As far as I am concerned, if the car is pinched, I want a new replacement!!!

The dealer has told me that my "Optimate" battery maintainer is not up to scratch, and has recommended a "Maserati" braded model at circa £180, however also told me it was manufactured by CTEK, and I can find it on line cheaper - nice!

Looking on line, I have found they do a range of charges, and am contemplating to purchase their "CTEK MXS 5.0 Battery Charger"

Does anyone out here know if this is would be the correct model and fit-for-purpose please?

Thank you - I just ordered the CTEK MXS 5.0 BATTERY SMART CHARGER on line for £54 delivered.... better than the £180 for the Maserati branded one from the dealer :)

Yes MM that is the correct C-Tek. I fitted one the other month.
Trackers suck the life out of batteries, they use the battery in standby 24/7, their on-board are activated once the car is stolen. Trackers also need their batteries checking about every 10 years. This used to be done remotely but with the number of times the Co. has been brought & sold who knows what has been stripped out of their operation overhead.

Leaving the interior light on over the weekend is enough to drain my battery, it seems. Opening the door, with the window winding down an inch was then enough to kill it completely...the window wouldn't even go back up.

Jump-leads out, making sure to attach the -ve to an earth not the battery, and all was well again.

Had to wind the window all the way down & back up before it would recognise that it needed to move when the door was opened.

The battery has Unipart written on it, but not sure how old it is. Brings back memories of British Leyland, they were based 5 miles from where I was born, and Unipart trucks were a common sight - never inspired confidence in that brand for me!
