Hi CatmanV2
No he had the MM unit, I don't know if its possible on a BOSE unit, but could be worth a look at the connections on the back of the unit if that what you have got?

I have the Bose. I've been told the issue is that there is a DSP in the trunk which handles and modifies all 6 channels in response to ambient noise. Most installs only get to work on one or two speakers as they splice in to the speaker cables. OK (I guess) for phone. Music not so much

Oh BTW: Same head unit on both

You have a Bose in the GT? Really, that must be the first one out there I've ever heard of that didn't use a MM unit.

'Same head unit......'

Oh and post 11 is wrong......

At least there's no socket under mine

Hoping for an easy solution.

I'd like to play music from my ipod/iphone in my Granturismo
It's a 2008 4.2 and has a HDD
Is there a cable or adaptor which is easy to 'plug and play' into the back of the head unit? I do have a parrot installed but it won't allow for music to be streamed on

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Are you still looking for streaming options? My mate just fitted a Parrot i9200 on my 2008 GT, I've got the Bose system as well and it's all working perfectly. After fitting this I've also got a USB port and aux input in the glove.

Hi CatmanV2
The radio you have is the BOSE head unit, not the MM radio of a Granturismo. And looking at the wiring for the BOSE unit, it is not a simple application as of the MM radio. The wiring is completely different and has many connectors. It could probably be done but a lot of modification would have to be done, which i wouldn't advise. The BOSE radio unit was only on a short run of Maserati QPs and Ferrari 612s.
If it was the MM unit on your QP then the installation of the bluetooth/music steaming would be more straight forward.

Sorry chap. I'm reading the Maserati Academy Technical manual. It's quite clearly the MM head fitted to the GT

...and from the same manual....

The Bose Surround Sound amplifier (DSP*) is positioned in the luggage compartment, on the left-hand side, and is interconnected with the rear wiring harness.
The DSP amplifier controls the audio system based on 4 audio channels received by the NIT. It controls the following functions:

Signal for front and rear woofer
Rear LH and RH speakers
Central speaker
Secondary amplifier activation
Bass box
AudioPilot microphone (only for vehicles using the Magneti Marelli NIT

Are you confused when you say 'your QP' that you think the picture in my avatar is a QP?

C. A pic of your NIT please as I said there were no GT’s fitted with a Bose made head unit. They were all Magnetti Marelli. Someone must have retrofitted a QP unit. Yours will be a HW7 unit and there should be a blanking plate in the glovebox. Trust me I’ve done plenty of research on these units.

OK so there's confusion.

I have a Bose (as in the Bose DSP in the boot). Which makes installing things like Parrots and Aux in really rather tricky unless you cut it out of system entirely. Per my most recent post I have the MM head unit.

TT for some reason thinks (thought?) I had a Bose head unit. And there is no USB behind the blanking flap on my GT :(

So everyone's on the right page :)
My name's Catman
I have a GT
My GT has a Magneti Marelli Head unit with no USB or Aux socketry behind any flap (although it's possible that the socket 'C' on the back may well allow such functionality)
I also have a Bose DSP in the boot. This means that if you splice a Parrot or something similar in by using the speaker plugs as you would do with most installs (cf 4200) we have no real idea what's going to happen with the DSP amp. It *might* be just fine or it might go a little bonkers.
Hmm, if I got a cheap one, I'd be tempted to give it a whirl. Given these are speaker level outputs, and assuming the centrepoint magic is not that intrusive it might still work....

Here are my notes on adding an AUX/USB to a GT 4.2 with HW7 head unit.

Adding Aux input to an Early GT (4.2).

On the HW 7 cars you can add a USB charging port (in the Glovebox) along with an Aux input (small mini phone jack) so that you can play an mp3 device through there. The USB socket is not data compatible so if you wanted Bluetooth in the car then the options are a device like this.

To upgrade to a USB charging socket a cable is needed and a proxi file update (contact dealer). The kit part number from Maserati is 920002221. Contact me for more info on the upgrade process.

To upgrade to BT handsfree (note not A2DP) a HW 8.0/8.1 NIT is needed and then the Proxi is needed for the car (contact dealer for Proxi)

Hi Catman

So it wasn't clear from what you kept mentioning about you having a Bose unit.
But we can all understand the situation now. Thanks for clearing that up.

So there will be no issue fitting a Parrot i9200 (Like what r3ni00 has) to your MM head unit as the wires are all the same behind the NIT unit as a non-Bose amplified system. (The speaker wires just go to the amp instead of the speakers first). So your GT would just require the right wiring adaptor and a small modification to the pin locations and an ignition feed. No need for the USB in the glovebox wiring as the Parrot kit comes with one too.
That was all carried out on r3ni00 GT, and works really well.
