IMO, the QP is far too big as well, that’s why the Chinese like them. You mention looks, but the Velar is no show girl; it’s an unashamed status symbol with a stupid name. Self perceived ‘style and panache’ is also self perceived status which explains why you would buy such a lump but turn your nose up at an everyday car with similar capabilities. Will you ever go properly off road in it? If not, you have no need for such a vehicle apart from to show the world what a ‘big man’ you are. By suggesting I ‘keep up’ indicates you think I have the slightest interest in what you are wasting your money on. I’m not, I’m merely saying SUVs are an American fad that people try and buy class with.

Oh I disagree, the Velar is Cinderella compared to the Aston and just about everyone who has seen it agrees.
Isn’t “self perceived” the reason why any of us do anything. I’m not buying the car to make u happy- I’m doing it for me and us.
I’ve never taken a car off road but that’s not the point. Why buy a car with 190mph top speed if you never intend to drive it at that? Or indeed are allowed to.
Re the rest, whether your interested or not, you said “so am I to assume you are too embarrassed to tell us?” I had.
Re the suv/class stuff, wasting money on etc, whatever- that’s your baseless opinion to which of course u are entitled.

'Unashamed status symbol' Ian.....Says the man with a Maserati ;) ..... Isn't that every expensive trinket from Maserati, Aston, Lambo, Ferrari etc. Most on here drive an unashamed status symbol surly. Nothing wrong with that.

Any SUV is a design compromise, by definition. Sports; I assume you will be having a decent engine in it or it won’t be ‘sporty’. Utility; you’ve already said you won’t be going off road in and I doubt you will be taking a boot full of cr4p to the tip in it. That doesn’t sound very utilitarian. Vehicle; yes it is, so you get one out of 3. Posing; yep, over designed to look like a big Evoque. Monstrosity; yep, too big for congested roads and Standard parking spaces. The whole genre has been designed for wannabees who wanted to be noticed and the fact it started in America says it all. The motorcycling equivalent is the Harley Davidson; a motor bike that isn’t really fast and doesn’t really handle but can go for days across open prairies which is great. In the UK it’s a status symbol. Anyway I’ve said all I want to say on such a dreary subject but read the story about the Emporers New Clothes’ and you might realise it has parallels with the SUV fad. Btw, when I get a car that does 190 you can bet you 4ss that I will prove it. I already have with the TT and I’ve verified the 4200 can get to 176 as well.

I didn’t buy a Maserati for any perceived status, I bought it because there weren’t many other soft top V8s that sounded great. The only other one was an SL55 but that was a bit soulless. The Maser was also fairly cheap which doesn’t really tie in with a status symbol. Also, I don’t use her much these days as I spend most of my time hacking round in German ‘white goods‘, usually the one with 330.000 miles on it. Fwiw, all of my cars are used for doing what they were designed to do, not for posing in.

330k miles....That's some going buddy......E46 was one of BMW's best made most reliable probably...….Had many and none of them ever gave me an issue.

Glad to hear you've finally collected the Velar and are happy with it. It looks great. Such a lovely place to sit in and spend time, wafting the miles away in comfortable luxury. And with such a smart car, you might even be able to persuade a good looking lady to join you!

I’ll just chip in here and say my Velar ticks every box for me.
I love the looks.
i use it to tow my car trailer.
i fill the boot with cr#p to take to the tip.
i use it off road for work way more than I expected.
i bought the petrol HSE variant so spent a good deal of money on it and spec’d it carefully.
in my opinion there absolutely IS a place for an SUV.
hope you enjoy yours Wattie.

Cheers fellas, our new Velar relationship is certainly off to a very good start.
Will get it registered and cleaned today (shipping co threw a bucket of water over it), then out for a decent waft around.

Of course there is if you use it as it was intended; off road, towing and hauling stuff to the tip is what the original Range Rover was designed to do.
