This icon valve amp arrived, minus the mains lead, it's a kettle lead so I dug around in the attic until I found one , plugged it in ANNNDDD nothing, dead, checked the fuse in the back, blown, replaced it with the spare and that lasted 2 seconds :(

It's not blowing the 3A fuse in the plug but it's going back which is a pity as it looks fantastic

Not good, fingers crossed its easy sorted and delivers what it should

Spoke to the guy in the shop, he thinks one of the output valves has taken a knock and may be shorting out causing the fuse to blow , they refurbed it with new valves and had it running for a week before they sold it

I'm not worried , it's one of those shops where you go in asking for a stereo and they enquire to sirs budget so a £500 amp is small change

It's just a bit irritating

Got the amp back, top service from Deco Audio , I posted mon, they fixed tue ,posted tue, got it back working at 10am wed

couriers had treated it that roughly they'd dislodged a circuit board

set it up and wow , like nothing I've ever heard before and it looks fantastic

Excellent news.

I have bought an Amazon echo dot as I'd recently been given some Amazon voucher. Oh my. That's quite scary. Integrated it into the home control system very simply and I wonder if I ever need to get off the sofa again....

At the very least the CIA will know what kind of music you're in to

The only issue I have with the audiogenie is when the kids are home the broadband can't keep up with streaming the HiFi quality which is annoying so I might go back to spotify

The good news is everybody seems to be offloading their CD collections at boot sales because of spotify , most of it is pop junk but occasionally you get some good stuff, last week I bought 30+ CDs for £20 from a guy who just wanted rid of them

Nah, I don't use it to play music. It won't connect to my Cyrus, and my Bose bluetooth thing is not up for it (although it might be cool for the studio or in the summer out on the decking).
The CIA can turn my lights on and off at will :D

I don't have a home control system whatever that is , my wife struggles with anything past channel 5 on the TV remote

Some years ago I was working as a courier between jobs , had to deliver an envelope which was a builders invoice to a £3m house in Altrincham , big gates 8ft tall and an intercom , I pressed the button no response , waited, pressed again then a minute later an elderly very posh voice from the other side of the gate

Hello

I have a delivery for you

Just a moment

Gates open , she takes the envelope but it's too dark for her to sign for it so we go to the porch , she opens the huge front door and the inside looks like you'd expect a millionaires house to be, on the wall just inside the door is a glass touch screen

She looks up at the porch light , Touches the screen and some bushes light up 50m away , so she presses another button and more bushes light up , so she has another go and the whole of the outside of the house is lit up like colditz castle during a breakout but no porch light so she gives up and invites me in so she can see to write her name.

Technology and the elderly , for the most part it just doesn't work , all she wanted was a switch with a dymo label saying porch

The builder amended his invoice so I had to go back , we still had the electric gate fiasco but I took a torch for the signing

Oh nothing serious. Runs the lights, heating, some of the multi-room music that kind of thing :D

Good job I'm some way from being elderly then :D

I'm not that old and I spent 20 minutes trying to get some lights to work in a hotel room last week. Gave up in the end.

This is getting to be an obsession , my CD player is a 25 year old arcam alpha so I've decided to upgrade it to a Marantz CD6006UKSE which gets really good reviews.

I've also been offered a roksan xerxes turntable by a guy at work but he wants £500 for it , luckily he's not in a rush to sell it as he's had it since 1985 so I have plenty of time to make my mind up

Nothing to do with age, or technology IME. Just to do with hotel rooms not having any lights :D

On your next US trip you need to get them to upgrade your hotel from those with no lights and the vibrating beds :D

You'd be amazed at some of the hotel rooms I've stayed in. Or maybe not.....

I wonder if we should actually administer the HiFi antidote. You have one of the worst cases I've seen since my teens.

I saw Steven Wilson at the bridgewater hall in Manchester on Saturday , that was loud, every time the drummer hit the base drum you could feel it right through your body , I was 10 rows from the front though

Don't know if I need an antidote , I'm still enjoying it

I'm done for now ,though I did find 2x 5m lengths of naim speaker cable at a boot sale, the guy said it was ruined because his dog had chewed it exposing the wire 1m from the end , he sounded like he had an X ray device that showed the extra sound quality leaking like a burst pipe so I handed my £10 over and walked off with it, muppet

So I've blown the driver on my ancient TDLs Studio 0.5s. They went out of business decades ago and all the spares have long since dried up. Looking at either seeing if the driver can be repaired or trying to source an appropriate pair of replacements but not sure how that will given that the whole cabinet/crossover/ tweeter combo was carefully designed for the original speaker.
