For some reason (well after driving one in Berlin) I thought it would be fun to own an original two stoke 2 cylinder trabant for a while.

They are properly horrible things, but it’s the quirkyness that appeals.

Will get the estate model so it can be used for trips to the dump and to get my bike to local national park etc.

Anyone else owned one, or something equally silly

But a 2Cv. Phil will explain why.
But they are hilarious.

The 2cv has never appealed to me.

Anyway, I have just pulled the trigger on the Trabant - I doubt I will own it for long, but it will tick one of many boxes.

We used to used them on trips to Hungary back in the day (when in Hungary, we didn't drive to Hungary in them to be fair, that was a job of an Audi 90 usually). You would think you were making good progress until a Lada RIva overtook you. But they went and went and if they didn't you could fix them at the side of the road with a paperclip or whatever you or a passing Trabant owner had handy. Glorious things in many ways,
