Hi,

Really noddy question. Just pulled a wheel to give a proper clean and new layer of sealant, and was reminded that the inside of the wheel is black rather than mercury grey as on the face.

I was curious as to why the alloys would have painted in two separate colours? Is it just for asthetics (less bling, calipers pop more, easier to keep lookig clean?).

Any implications for refurbs? Presumably a more complicated process than a just a single colour.

They have been refurbed several times by the sound of it with the last one applied only to the face with spray paint.

Ah, interesting though a bit irritating as all four wheel are the same. They are a nice flake finish at least!

So originally the whole wheel would have been mercury grey?

It's something some wheel refurbishers do. An option for people who can't be arsed to clean the insides of their alloys. Personally I wouldn't recommend it as when the carbon builds up it holds onto the moisture thus allowing your alloys to corrode on the inside.
