Klaus Busse, a key designer responsible for some of the latest successes of the Italian-American automaker, will come back to Europe following a stint in the US, tasked to chief the design for the Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Abarth brands.
Busse, 45, has been swept in the management shakeup atop Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, being named now the new chief of design for FCA's European, Middle East and Africa operations under Ralph Gilles, who is FCA's global design boss. He will also discuss the company strategy with Alfredo Altavilla, FCA's head of the EMEA region. Busse has been born in Germany and has been responsible for transforming the interiors of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram models – he now returns to his home region to oversee the design reshape of the company's European brands. His former position would be assumed by Christopher Benjamin, an ex-Volvo designer that was also responsible for the creation of the 2015 Chrysler 300's interior.
Busse has been in the US since 2005 when the automaker in Auburn Hills was called DaimlerChrysler and afterwards he remained with the Chrysler Group when the American and German companies parted ways, also remaining with the company as it went through bankruptcy restructuring and the association with Italy's Fiat. His move back to Europe is part of the broad management shakeup atop FCA's operations, which include the reorganization of the brand structure at the North American operation, with added responsibilities' for Dodge chief Tim Kuniskis now leading Dodge, Chrysler and Fiat in the US, while Jeep boss Mike Manley also gains the oversight of the Ram pickup brand.
